About Jack *On Trial in His New Home*
*JACK IS CURRENTLY TRIALLING HIS NEW HOME* Introducing Jack!! He’s a very handsome purebred German Shepherd who’s looking for a new home where he’ll be walked daily and showered with love; will it be with you?
Jack’s owners have made the very tough decision to rehouse their gorgeous boy as they feel it’s unfair that they don’t have enough time for him. He was adopted from Sydney as a 12 week old puppy when his owner wasn’t working so he had lots of time to train Jack and enjoy their daily walks together but since then full-time work and family commitments have gotten in the way and Jack’s the one who’s missing out especially as their 12, 14 and 16 year old daughters aren’t interested in a big dog and he’s too strong for their 6 year old son to walk even though he adores Jack so they came to the decision that Jack deserves better than that as it’s not fair on such a beautiful dog. He’s even become quite ball obsessed as on the nights his owner ran out of time to walk him he tried multi-tasking by shooting basketball hoops with his son while throwing a tennis ball to Jack so we’d really like to see him out of this habit in his forever home.
Enjoy some video of Jack (you’ll need to copy and paste this link into your browser): http://youtu.be/7I1OK28efwM
At 18 months old Jack is past the chewing and digging stage. He knows “sit” and “stay” and loves going for walks but he is quite strong so perhaps a Halti or similar would be better. Jack occasionally jumps up for cuddles though responds to the “down” command. He’s great with kids though perhaps not toddlers who he could easily bowl over in his playful exuberance. He’s not so good with cats and chases them from his yard including the cat he lived with who had to take up residence in their front yard so she could have some peace. Jack hasn’t had a lot of socialising with other dogs since he was a pup so we would need to test this further if he was required to live with another.
We reckon Jack would enjoy an inside / outside lifestyle where he can be part of the households going on – he’s currently an outside only dog but as his previous family said it’s already crowded in their home with 6 people! A good size yard, daily walks and bones to chew on will make Jack a very happy young dog. Experience with large breed dogs is highly desirable.
