About Marco
MARCO is a stunning big 4 yr old male Mally with a very endearing, goofy and outgoing personality. He's extremely human focussed and likes to be involved in everything - will follow you around the house and is a very active, strong boy. He loves his cuddles and tummy rubs and has just discovered that squeaky toys can be fun to play with. He likes to use his paws a lot to get his human’s attention and he can be quite boisterous, so a home with children under 12 would be unsuitable for him. He prances when he’s excited and it is SO cute, he also likes to walk around people or other dogs in circles…it’s amazing how he doesn’t get dizzy. He can jump quite high very quickly and has the ability to balance upright for a few seconds on his hind legs and even step sideways – it’s an impressive sight, as he’s a very athletic boy!
Marco allows full handling, is fantastic with allowing himself to be brushed which is a great asset as he has a medium woolly coat and will need to be brushed a few times a week at a minimum to keep his coat looking good and in top condition.
He’s fine with other dogs, was fine with cats introduced to him when on lead and currently getting to slowly know the cat in his foster home but fluctuates and does show too much interest on ocassion than is healthy - so will be continuing to work on for the next few weeks to asses him in this area...so will not be available for adoption until this has been resolved..
Marco knows sit, drop, stay (short time only), shake paw and will take treats gently the majority of the time – however, with raw meat, he still has the occasional tendency to jump up and snatch which is being worked on.
He is also house trained and learned to pee on command very quickly. He is quite good on lead (for a Mally) but a very strong puller when he is interested in something
Marco will need ongoing, consistent training by a firm but gentle, breed experienced leader to gain his respect, otherwise he'd have a tendency to ignore and do his own thing - the selective hearing trait that many Malamutes possess.
Like all Mals, Marco will need long, brisk walks on a daily basis to keep his mind and body stimulated and strong, secure fencing to keep him safely contained. He's quite an entertaining boy with a cheeky sense of humour and makes a delightful companion.
Medical notes
Marco currently has a flea allergy rash in certain areas of his body from biting and itching at it which is being treated.
