About Sandy (rehomed 10/6/13)
Sandy is a super cute Australian Silky Terrier x. He’s an older boy, around 10 years. During this time in foster care it has been wonderful to see him blossum. It's amazing to see how much a lot of love, a stable routine and desexing can change a dog’s behaviour.
Sandy was initially scared, not used to affection and felt easily threatened. But over time he has developed into a very affectionate little fellow who loves to follow you around or sit at your feet. He thrives on routine, and loves pats and walks, but still isn’t very comfortable with being held or hugged. He is an inside / outside dog who is toilet trained and sleeps inside at night. (He’d happily sleep on your bed if you let him!)
Sandy has become accustomed to his female doggie foster siblings and lives happily with them, but he might prefer to be an only dog whose owners are often around. He has lots of energy at times, loves to race around the yard when the mood strikes him, and really enjoys human playmates once he is used to you. He follows you around all day and snoozes at your feet or up on his comfy chair at night while you watch telly. He isn’t too keen on car trips but as he rarely travels in the car, he would be more comfortable once he got used to it if car travel became a regular thing. His beautiful golden coat is deceptively low maintenance.
He is not suitable for a household with small children or free range animals (e.g. chickens). Sandy has a mild heart murmer which is common in dogs his age. He is not on any medication and it does not currently affect him. All our dogs start out on a 2 week trial period. You may wish to take Sandy to your vet during this time to reassure yourself of his health.
He is such a beautiful boy with loads of personality, is a real cutie and will be very much missed by his foster family when he finds his special forever home!
For more information about Sandy or to meet him please call his foster mum Liz on 0412 946 444. Sandy's $200 adoption fee covers her de-sexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, micro-chipping, and lifetime registration. Your support allows us to continue saving homeless dogs.
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone (preferred) or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile. They can tell you all about the pet. They will also ask you about what sort of home you are offering in order to assess if it is a good match.
(2) Arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carers home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. They will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
