Jack (2) (On Trial 17/12/12)

Jack is a great little family dog. He is a 10 month old Jack Russell cross (possibly with beagle or corgi?) He is a large small dog. He is happy go lucky and eager to please. He bonds quickly with all members of the family big and small. He gets on like a house on fire with my four kids (3 to 10 years) and my other animals. He is happy to lay by your feet while you work or follow you around outside.

Jack loves the car and has already spent hours commuting with me during the time in my care and just lays quietly on the seat or floor with his car harness on. He loves water and stands amazingly still in the bath. He sometimes thinks his water bowl is for swimming so it is a good idea to put his water bowl on tile or outside.

Jack has great social skills and wants to play with all other dogs. Older dogs that don't want to play might get annoyed as Jack is very insistent that all dogs must want to run around with him. Being young, he does still chew toys that my children leave laying around. If bored will dig outside for fun.

He is a great boy at night, happy to sleep in the laundry, in the house of course, or outside, he has not scratched at doors or cried, yet just snuggled up and slept through. He has not had house accidents, despite my other dogs marking spots when they were younger.

Jack has started some training and is a very fast learner and will try very hard for a treat. He mastered 'sit' in a day and is learning to come to his name already. Jack is learning not to cross in front of me as I walk him on the lead, he does not pull, yet seems inexperienced at lead walking. He would be best with a family with the knowledge, time and skill to work with him further or take him to dog training classes to learn.

Jack has met our bunny and is very interested and while not overly aggressive would be tempted to get a bit friendly if left alone. He is with horses and although occasionally barks at them he has begun to listen when called off and told to go and sit down. He has also met our cat and looks excited, yet has only looked and not chased.

Jack is suited to an active family that will spend lots of time with him, or a family with another active dog. Jack is not dominant at all with other dogs so is easily bossed around by more confident housemates. He must be allowed to spend lots of time inside when people are home and sleep inside in cold weather. Jack is a great little mate and will make a family very happy.
