About Kelly Slater (adopted by foster carer)
adopted---
Kelly Slater (named after the surfer) is a 2 year old, male, Maltese x. He is a very sweet natured dog, good with children and with other dogs. The first thing you notice about him is his very pretty light coloured eyes. Then he shows off his adorable habit of sitting up and waving his front legs in the air to say hello or just to get a better view of the world.
Slater has lots of energy and enjoys playing with my other little dog. Although Slater is a small dog, he still needs a decent sized backyard to play in and a daily walk, which he loves. He loves playing with toys and is not a fussy eater.
Slater is an indoor dog, and sleeps with my children, and they adore him. He is housetrained of course. He is a very friendly little boy and has no problems with children but he would be better with children over around 5 years old because he is small and very young ones could accidently hurt him. Although I have no problems with him with my children (my youngest is 4 years old) but I have to constantly remind my two youngest that Slater is not a little doll that they can carry all the time.
Slater doesn't shed so he needs his hair brushed at least once a day, a bath every 2 weeks and professional clipping approximately every 2 months. He loves his bath time and is a pleasure to brush and fuss over. You must be prepared for the time and expense of looking after a non-shedding dog if you want a Maltese like Slater. But on the plus side he won't leave hair all over your home or clothing.
The Maltese breed was developed solely as a very loyal and intelligent companion. Slater, true to his breed, craves company and is not a dog to be left home alone all day or outside in the yard. He must be part of the family. Slater was born on born 2/4/2010. He was rescued from a pound, where we found him with very long hair but otherwise in good condition.
So if you're looking for a small dog that is full of life with good natured please get in touch. You might be the lucky one to provide a permanent home for this lovely little dog. I will be very particular about his future forever home. We want to make sure he will be with someone that will appreciate him and will treat him with respect and love ...not as a toy.
Slater is in foster care in Newcastle, NSW and is available for adoption interstate. For more information or to meet Slater please phone foster carer Vera 0427 866 036 (any time except Sunday around lunch time) or email veacmoore@me.com.
Dog Rescue Newcastle www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au is a not-for-profit, volunteer organisation. Slater's $450 adoption fee covers his desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. Your support allows us to continue saving other homeless dogs like Slater.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone (preferred) or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile. They can tell you all about the pet. They will also ask you about what sort of home you are offering in order to assess if it is a good match.
(2) Arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carers home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. They will ask to see photo ID to prove you live there.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
