On Hold
About Charlie (On Hold pending adoption first week Nov)
Meet Charlie the lovable, sook. He is a 12 month old baby boy and ready to see the world and learn. He is a Kelpie cross with a Koolie. Both breeds are "get up and go" breeds. He weighs around 15-20 kgs.
Charlie is looking for home with people who love the beach or lake (he is a water baby) and being as active as he is. He has been an only dog but is the social butterfly to anything and everyone so he may require another companion if you work long hours.
His breed requires more mental stimulation than physical to keep them happy and calm in a city lifestyle. I know this can be done as I have two kelpies. The more you physically stimulate these dogs and not challenge their mind the fitter they get and demand more exercise physically. Mental stimulation is anything that challenges the mind: learning new tricks, daily routines that require the dog to use his brain and think, 5 -10 minutes a day doing routines.
Charlie has just come into care so we are learning about him more and more. He has basic manners but has a few springs in his legs and springs up on the spot when excited. Saying that he does not jump up on people often nor does he jump fences or bark (yet). Charlie really adores water so if you have a pool it must be securely fenced as he cannot pull himself out and has to be taught where the steps are. We are not sure on his recall status off lead. He rides in the car well and is quite submissive but confident with new surrounding and adapts easily. Charlie requires ongoing lead training as he zig zags and has a low concentration span at the moment, which is no fault of his own as he is new to care and the environment and wants to explore.
These breeds mature at around 2 years old and must have ongoing stimulation. Charlie would be suited to children aged 9+ aged. Charlie is a pleasure for a puppy and very lovely role model for his breeds!
Charlie is in foster care in Lake Macquarie, near Newcastle. For more information or to meet Charlie please phone foster carer Kaitlin on 0439 317 612.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone (preferred) or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile. They can tell you all about the pet. They will also ask you about what sort of home you are offering in order to assess if it is a good match.
(2) Arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carers home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. They will ask to see photo ID to prove you live there.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
