About Moe (On Trial 28/10/12)
Meet Moe- Harrier (Hare Hound) 2-3 years. This handsome little man found himself at the pound and understandably, was a little shocked by the ordeal. He is shy with strangers but once he comes out of his shell he is the life of the party.
Moe is extremely loyal and affectionate and loves to lie in your lap for cuddles.
Harriers (a smaller fox hound) are not that common in Australia but information is readily available on the internet if you want to know more about the breed. They are described as :-
“cheerful, sweet-tempered, and tolerant … excellent with children. This pack dog is good with other dogs, but should be supervised with non-canine pets. It prefers life in a pack with people, dogs, or both. This active dog likes to go roam, exploring, sniffing and trailing.”
Moe seems to fit this description perfectly. He loves my dogs and plays very well- even with Flossy the extreme senior. Moe is estimated to be 2-3 years old- he is still very young in terms of behaviour and plays like a puppy, which can involve nipping when he gets excited. We’re working on this and he is responding well.
As hounds are bred to hunt small furry animals, it is not recommended that you leave them unsupervised around small fluffy pets (including small dogs). Moe has shown no signs of aggression whilst staying with me, and has met people and pets of all sizes and ages. In fact he is a bit of a flirt and cuddle hog.
It seems that Moe’s previous owners did not invest any time in training. However, he is very intelligent and loves to please. With patience and commitment, Moe would excel. He’s a typical hound on the lead and is often distracted by smells but he isn’t one to drag you along. Presently, he walks with my two dogs and is starting to follow their sensible walking behaviour.
Moe was not house-trained but in the short time he’s been here he has made huge progress in this area. He doesn’t poop inside but will still mark his territory occasionally.
Ideally Moe will be rehomed with a family and other dogs. He is very sociable and would not cope if left alone for long periods of time. Whilst Moe spends much of his time indoors here (low fences!) he loves to be outside exploring. A home with a yard would be ideal. He loves to sprint around at top speed- pretending that you are chasing him.
If you’re looking for an active and loving companion than Moe’s your man. It will be love at first sight! I will be so sad when he leaves but he really needs a home with an outdoor lifestyle and young dogs to romp with.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone (preferred) or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile. They can tell you all about the pet. They will also ask you about what sort of home you are offering in order to assess if it is a good match.
(2) Arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carers home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. They will ask to see photo ID to prove you live there.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
