About Benji2
My name Benji, I was rescued with my mother from the pound at 7 weeks old, we had been surrendered as mum had been subjected to a back yard breeder/puppy mill who had not treated her well and allowed her to have litter after litter. Mum tried to care for us as best as she could but when we were found she was dreadfully skinny and had very little hair on her back due to a severe flea infestation.
When we were rescued we stayed at the home of a lovely family until we could be transferred to HappyPaws Haven in Grafton. We were much happier, mum started to play with me and my friends. All was going well, I was adopted by this lovely family while still a puppy and have stayed with them for about three years then my owners husband got cancer really badly. He is so sick that my owner realised that she could not look after me properly any more. She rang Sally and bought me back to HappyPaws Haven.
It is a very different place to where we lived in Grafton, but I like it here as there is lots of space and I have made lots of friends. I have settled in now but still wish I was home so I could be closer to my owner again. I am looking forward to someone with a family to come and adopt me and just me as their best mate as I prefer not to share unless I have to.
As you probably know Belgians are possessive dogs and can be demanding and Benji is no different. They have a loving sensitive nature and need to be regularly exercised. They generally love to go to training to learn and keep them mentally occupied as they are very intelligent. A highly trainable dog, the Belgian Shepherd excels at obedience, agility, tracking and herding work and makes a loyal family companion. This breed is very special and does not suit everyone, it is a breed I specialize in and assist the Belgian Shepherd Club in their rescue.
The Belgian Shepherd Dog forms strong bonds with its owner and so is more sensitive to its owner’s needs. Therefore a Belgian needs to "live with" its family rather than in isolation somewhere in the grounds or left in the house alone for many hours a day. If the dog has to spend a lot of time on its own it would benefit from a companion, preferably another Belgian Shepherd of the opposite sex.
Adoption details
HappyPaws Haven is fussy about who adopts these animals and where they are housed and cared for. The adoption criteria is documented as a questionnaire and strictly adhered to. We do not adopt animals to people who rent unless they are long term rental at the same address and have landlords written permission.
We ask if they have thought about the attributes they want in a dog, lifestyle, childrens ages, prepared to train, etc. We also talk about responsible pet ownership, \ fully fenced yards, hours unattended etc. and finally a vet reference.
This pet has been adopted and found love with its new family.
