About Lucilla - A very special girl!
Lucilla (or Cillypants!) Is the most extraordinary little girl! At around 12 weeks old, she was left at a vet clinic with horrific injuries, which resulted in her hind leg and the majority of her tail being amputated. The vet assumed the injuries were a result of being hit by a car.
Don't feel sorry for her though, this is not a pity story! Lucilla recovered well and has never looked back! 'cilla gets around very well, in her own unique way, and can do just about everything the average cat can do! When she walks, she curves her body around, which is very unusual and we suspect that she walks in such a curved manner due to sustaining her injuries at such a young age and her muscles and ligaments growing to match her little crab walk!
Lucilla has the most beautiful personality, she's affectionate, playful and so loving!
As far as her health is concerned, it's likely she will develop arthritis in her back and hind leg at some stage, though it is impossible to know when. Because of the way she walks, there is more strain being put on her hind leg than the average 3 legged cat, and as a result, more care needs to be taken to protect that leg.
So now for her special needs! Lucilla will require a strictly indoor only, adult, single story home with no stairs. It's not that she couldn't climb them, it's that she's not allowed to, as the way she walks would almost certainly result in falls. Floor surfaces aren't an issue, she gets around well on carpet, tiles and vinyl.
Lucilla's new family will need to ensure there are no great heights she can climb to, or jump from and scratching posts shouldn't be too high. Basically she needs to be in a home that will be mindful that she doesn't know her own limitations!
Lucilla would be suitable as an only cat or with a kitty playmate. She does like to pounce and chase and play fight, so she loves active, confident cats that will play with her!
Lucilla is in foster care in Croydon North.
Medical notes
Lucilla goes to her new home desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and flea and worm treated.
Lucilla has had a hind leg and the majority of her tail amputated. This does not require any ongoing medical treatment or medication.
