Barney

Barney is having to be rehomed as his owner is moving into a shared house which barney will not cope with and he's worried that with so many people coming and going, barney will escape through the front door. This is barney's second home and he came with some issues that used to terrify him, perhaps suggesting that he wasn't treated very well in his first home. When visitors came to the house he would hide and whimper and for some reason he is also frightened of the gas top cooker and again he will go and hide under the bed. Many of barney's issues have now been trained out of him and he has learnt various commands like sit, shake, heel, walks on a lead and to stop him barking "no bark". If all else fails with that ask him if he's hungry and he'll drop everything and stand to attention! well, he is a dachshund and there are some traits that are just inherent!

barney still needs lots of socialisation with other dogs, some he likes some he doesn't, most notably the bigger ones. However when he has been at kennels he has got on really well with the other dogs and he has managed to melt their hearts. He also needs to know that you're the boss and there is nothing for barney to worry about. When visitors come to the house, barney is put in the laundry until the visitors are settled and then he can come out quietly and say hello. He will bark at a car which stops outside the house as he goes into protection mode and assumes that people are going to invade the house. Barney will continue to need training and nurturing so he doesn't relapse, someone who knows how to be the pack leader and reassure barney that he doesn't need to be in control of his pack. As for cuddles, affection, tummy rubs and sneaking into bed for yet more cuddles, this is the little man for you
