About Oscar *On Trial in His New Home*
*OSCAR IS CURRENTLY TRIALLING HIS NEW HOME* Adorable Oscar is the last of 6 beautiful beagle x terrier pups looking for forever homes after they were saved by a kind samaritan from being “hit over the head” as they were sadly unwanted. She then drove them the 4½ hours to us SARG folk in Mildura as she knew we’d look after them and find them the best homes; will it be with you???
Oscar has a lovely, friendly nature and gets along well with his carers other little dogs and is not fazed at all by the household cats. He is used to being handled (cuddled!) by adults as well as his carers children making him pretty much “bomb proof” – beagles are excellent with kids. Little Oscar enjoys a play in the backyard with the others or he’s just as happy curled up beside you on the couch watching tv at night. As he’s like a “mini Beagle” he’s a terrific take anywhere size and he enjoys getting out and about on a lead and sniffing what the world has to offer! (Oscar weighs 11kgs at almost 6 months of age and he doesn't have much more growing to do). Beagles are generally obedient, but can be difficult to recall once they have picked up a scent (hence why you need to be careful before taking them off lead), and are easily distracted by smells around them. Oscar’s also learning “sit” and “down” which can be a challenge as Beagles don’t normally feature in obedience trials; while they are alert, respond well to food-reward training (Oscar loves his treats!), and are eager to please, they may be easily bored or distracted so can be diggers and/or chewers.
As Oscar is only a young pup he will require ongoing obedience training as well as socialisation with other dogs so he grows up to have lovely manners! daily walks, secure fencing, bones to chew on and toys to keep Oscar stimulated are also a necessity so he doesn’t get bored and up to mischief. Oscar is now housetrained so he would be best suited to an indoor / outdoor lifestyle with either a doggie companion to learn from or on his own but only if he won’t be left alone for long periods of time especially while he’s a pup.
