About Sarah (On Trial)
On trial in a new home 14/7/12. Please consider our other dogs at www. Dogrescuenewcastle. Com. Au
sarah is a 2yo greyhound. Her party trick is picking up a fluffy toy and throwing it in the air to catch it again. She is curious about new things, and enjoys making music with squeaky toys. Until two months ago, her life revolved around racing. Because of this she has had to have a crash course in “how to be a pet dog. ” she has come to realise that she is a much better pet dog than a race dog and would love a permanent home that will allow her to continue learning about family life. . . Sarah is a timid placid girl who loves cuddles and lots of affection. After a while she does come out of her shell and will start behaving silly for a short period of time and then quickly settles down to being placid again. Sarah loves fluffy soft items and will often steal them from various rooms and take them into my lounge room. . . Sarah has begun her training and is responding well. She is housetrained. She knows her name and come and is currently learning the greyhound version of sit. She is a dream to walk. She has also learnt that the lounge and human bed is by invitation only. . . She enjoys travelling by car and will enthusiastically jump in. She likes to wade in water. She likes all foods (except kangaroo) and will eat a whole banana in approx 15 seconds. She has learned to catch food thrown to her. Sarah regularly eats breakfast with a cat and tolerates this well. She also will allow the cat to share the human bed with her. She is great with larger dogs and kids. She also doesn’t pay much attention to my pet rat. She has met one small dog and wanted to play with him but he growled at her. . . Sarah will need to be a mostly inside as greyhounds feel the cold in winter and heat in summer. (she comes with her own coat). As a sight hound, bred for chasing, sarah will never be allowed off leash in an open area. If something catches her eye she will take off. By law sarah needs to wear a muzzle when in public. (she comes with her muzzle). Greenhounds has a program that, if sarah passes, will allow her to be muzzle free. I believe that sarah is a good candidate for this. For more information about the programs and about greyhounds as pets please see the greenhounds website http://www. Greenhounds. Com. Au/. . . There is a misconception that greyhounds need lots of exercise. Their nickname is the 70km/h couch potato. They are happy to go for a walk, like all dogs, but because they are sprinters long walks are not required. . . Sarah's needs are: a family or single who is home a lot, and / or a second dog for company. She thrives on company and does not like being excluded from the household for long. Her training as a pet dog and general training will need to continue. Sarah has been checked by our vet and has even had her teeth cleaned. . . *** please see more photos of sarah at http://tinyurl.
