About Henry
Henry is the most affectionate little man and came to paws in a very neglected condition. he had probably never been brushed in his life as his coat was totally matted and dreadlocked. as well, he had to have several teeth removed while under anaesthetic as there was so much hair caught between Henry is the most affectionate little man and came to PAWS in a very neglected condition. He had probably never been brushed in his life as his coat was totally matted and dreadlocked. As well, he had to have several teeth removed while under anaesthetic as there was so much hair caught between his teeth, presumably from trying to chew his matted coat. Despite what he had been through, Henry bonded immediately with all the members of his foster carer’s family and appeared to be so grateful to finally have a nice warm house and comfy bed to sleep in and he loves nothing more than to curl up on the lounge beside any of his foster family. It seems that in his former life Henry had limited socialisation experiences as initially he lacked confidence with other dogs and humans other than his foster carer’s family. Now however, he is really enjoying his trips to the local doggy park and has learnt that other dogs are not so scary but can be fun playmates. Henry also loves his walks and dances excitedly when his lead appears. At first Henry had no idea what to do with his doggy toys but now he just loves his special squeaky toy and spends much of the day carrying it around. Henry is in foster care as an only dog and sleeps quietly in the family room, not disturbing his foster carers even once during the night. He has also done really well with his house training and uses the doggy door to go outside whenever he needs to. Henry is very comfortable in his foster home, going about his daily routine of cuddles, cat naps on the couch and daily walks around the neighbourhood or to the dog park. We think that Henry was a backyard dog in his past life with little human contact and obviously no other dog contact therefore when Henry goes to a new home his new owners will need to be understanding and patient and give him a period of readjustment so he can learn that his new owners are going to care for him in the same way that his foster family have. Once he has gained everyone's trust he will settle down and become a great addition to the family. Henry would love a home where someone is home most of the time as he does love the company of his special humans but he is not suitable for a home with young children. A dog-savvy owner who will continue his socialisation experiences and take him for the walks he loves would be ideal. Henry has a non-shedding coat which will require regular grooming and he is a house dog who must have access to the outside through a doggy door or similar.
