About Pepsi
Pepsi and three other guinea pigs were apparently dumped on someone, who then took them to the pound. The pound were kind enough to contact us so we could rescue them, as they otherwise would not have survived for much longer. All boys are extremely thin and mite infested. They've had a dose of revolution, and are on a course of baycox to rule out coccidiosis being the cause of their malnutrition. However it is most likely a simple case of them being starved, or given a completely inappropriate diet. These boys will need some time to recover and rule out any underlying health concerns, but adoption interest is welcome during this recovery period. An update on pepsi, who has now been at the shelter for 5 weeks. Out of the four guinea pigs rescued, pepsi was in the worst state. He had no front teeth, and whereas the other boys learnt to pick up chopped vegies and continue with life, pepsi gave up and got very depressed. He had to be force fed for more than 3 weeks as we tried to work out what was wrong, which was an extremely draining and emotionally exhausting period of time. His teeth have finally regrown, and with them an increase in his appetite. He is now completely off assisted feeding, and has considerably perked up. His weight gain has been minimal, but he has finally started to try. Instead of sitting hunched up and depressed in a corner, he will look excited and race forward to take his goji berry treat from your fingers. When he sees you enter the room, he bounds over and squeels for his favourite treat, some apple. Apple was the magical fruit that finally gave him a small spark in his eyes, which showed he was going to make it! we now have more hope for pepsi, and continue to monitor him several times a day to ensure he stays on the right track, and can eventually be adopted. He is buddied to cola, and these two boys will need to find a home together. If you would like to donate or fundraise towards the care and veterinary expenses of these boys, please visit: http://www.
