agility princess in the making?
gypsy is a 12 month old red kelpie, however i think she’s more chocolate brown with a teeny hint of red in her coat. Judging by her choice to investigate my copy of red dog, and try to open the case, i think she might identify herself as a red dog :p
she is very highly strung and quite skittish, especially around new people, males, and taller people. She is also submissive with people, and other dogs. She can easily jump 5 ½ foot fences, and digs when bored, however an early morning run or trip to the doggy park seems to help burn some of the extra energy, she’s very smart and inquisitive and loves kong’s stuffed with treats. She is great on the leash, and has picked up “heel”, “sit”, “wait”, “drop” and “lets go” as commands, and is still learning “cease” as she tends to be a bit ‘licky’. She has learnt most of these without treats, just pats and “good girl” as reward. I think she would definitely benefit from some more obedience classes, however is quite good with waiting, even for food j. She also knows “hi 5” and “back off” (to not annoy people while they are eating, even if on the couch or ground. She is also house trained. During visits to the doggy parks, i’ve learnt that she seems to pick up agility training quite well (although i have no real experience with training dogs in agility) but leading her through the tunnels, up and down the obstacles, jumping the bars, and zig zagging through the poles, she seems to follow quite well. She is also learning to fetch, although she’d rather just herd the other dog that will play fetch. She’s an amazingly fast runner too. If you are looking for an agility partner, jogging friend or if you have an active family, then gypsy is the girl for you. If interested please fill in a application form http://www.
