About Nova
Nova is a handsome and friendly kelpie x labrador, only 18 months old, weighs 32kg. He has basic obedience training (sit, come). Every time you ask him to sit, he sits and immediately lifts his paw to shake your hand! so polite. . . He has a favourite stuffed dog toy that he loves chasing and chewing on. He also likes chewing on a kong toy stuffed with treats to keep him amused. He likes to play fetch with a tennis ball. . . He gets a goofy smile on his face and looks like a teddy bear when you rub him on the front of his neck or on his belly, ahhhh doggy bliss!. . He's still very young and so would benefit from further training and especially he would be great attending dog training classes. He sometimes will mouth your hand lightly when playing but he should be taught not to do this by making a yelping sound and stopping the game when he does this. . . He is fine with older children around 10 years and older but is not suitable to younger ones because he is still young and boisterous himself. . . Nova was brought up with cats so should be fine with cats in his forever home after being introduced. He is curious and friendly with dogs his own size and smaller, but is shy and runs away from dogs larger than him. When allowed off lead, sometimes he comes back but other times you have to go get him if he has found an new doggy friend to play with. Further training could help with this. I like to let him burn off energy by taking him to the off lead park and letting him run around with the other dogs. Nova is housetrained and needs to be allowed to have some time indoors and be part of the family. He is not a dog to be left outside all the time. He currently sleeps in our sunroom on a 2-seater lounge. . . Nova rarely barks (probably because we give him plenty of exercise to wear him out). He doesn't fret when left home alone, but i am only away max 6 hours. . . Nova adores schmackos so this can be used to motivate him during training. Kelpies are very smart and need to receive training, exercise and plenty of interaction/mental stimulation/games. . . Nova's ideal home would have a large backyard with good fencing. The family would welcome him inside when people are home. He needs lots of cuddles, attention, playtime and minimum 1 to 2 hours exercise per day. He'd be a perfect running, jogging or walking partner for an active person. He'd also be a great dog if you want to get into dog sports such as agility, flyball, or obedience training. Or if you just want a loyal and intelligent best mate. . . *** please see more photos of nova at http://tinyurl.
