About Oscar (On Trial)
On trial in a new home 7/5/12. Please consider our other dogs at www. Dogrescuenewcastle. Com. Au particularly alaska. . . Oscar is a 7 yo maltese, a beautiful little darling who just loves to be near you. As soon as anyone comes to the house he runs to grab his favourite squeaky toy and takes it to them to play. He loves his blue squeaky bone, playing fetch, tug-of-war, and carrying it everywhere. When he gets adopted it will go with him of course. It is his security blanket. He is very, very affectionate. He enjoys lots of lap time, cuddles and tummy rubs!
oscar walks well on a lead but should never be allowed off lead as he doesn't have any road sense and would be likely to go off to explore. A ride in the car is a special treat and he is well behaved. He doesn't bark except when someone knocks on the door. Oscar is very much an inside dog and must be allowed inside when people are home and preferably when not home too. He is housetrained and can use a doggie door. He sleeps in the laundry with my other small foster dog. Sometimes, when he gets tired, he takes himself off to bed. Oscar would be fine with another small dog but is very people oriented and would also be just as happy as an only dog, so he can soak up all the attention. He would not be comfortable with larger dogs or boisterous young dogs. . . Oscar is sweet and gentle with children, but he would be better suited to a home where children are visitors (such as the grandchildren) rather than full time residents, because he prefers a quieter, calmer, lifestyle. . . When oscar came into foster care he had a condition called "dry eyes". He didn't produced tears so his eyes were painful and sticky. Dog rescue newcastle held an auction to raise the funds for his operation. The surgery was a big success and now he is so much happier and more comfortable. His eyes produce tears now and he is pain free, probably for the first time in many years. He doesn't require any special care or medication now other than wiping his eyes once every morning. He's been through a lot with his eyes so now he needs a special home where someone has time to spend with him, and he will be loved and treated kindly for the rest of his life. Oscar has the most beautiful, almost pure white, coat. He doesn't shed so he needs regular brushing (daily), bathing (every 3 weeks) and professional clipping (very 6 to 8 weeks). You should be prepared to properly care for his coat to keep him healthy and comfortable. . . Oscar is waiting to be adopted by a gentle and compassionate person who will give him the loving home he deserves. Someone retired or non-working would suit him to a t. . . *** please see more photos of oscar at http://tinyurl.
