Missy *On Trial*

*missy is currently trialling her new home* meet missy! she’s a quiet, thoughtful girl who once she gets to know you, will smooch and happily show you her affectionate side. She is looking for a caring and compassionate home who will help build her confidence and understands she is quite shy when it comes to meeting new people especially adults. Rescued by sarg at 5-6 months of age missy was terrified of everyone and everything except for her carer’s own little dogs and her almost 5 year old daughter who missy stuck to like glue. It was thanks to this relationship that her carer was able to work with missy and gain her confidence though it was still weeks until missy would come close enough to an adult for them to pat her; it was heart breaking especially when we don’t really know her background. Now nearly 4 months later we feel that missy is ready to head off into the big wide world though she will need a patient, loving home who will continue to help her flourish. Missy is terrific with children of all ages and as she rarely jumps up there is no fear of bowling over even toddlers. She’s not licky or in your face though she does make a good watch dog and will give a warning bark when she feels it’s warranted. During her time in care missy has never shown any aggression towards humans even when outside her comfort zone at the vets, she just rolls over submissively or cowers out of what she thinks is harms way. Gentle missy is fantastic with other dogs and enjoys their company; she is often playing mad games of chaseys with her carers little deaf poodle or helping settle in any new foster dog who’ve come and gone while she’s been in care – at the moment she’s helping look after 3 staffy x maltese pups who keep her entertained!

clever missy has learnt to “sit” and will even do so with just a gentle touch to her neck. Getting her to walk on a lead has been far harder as she’s terrified of being clipped on – it makes us wonder if she was chained up in her previous life - and even leaving her carers property was too much for her at first but now she’s fine to have her harness put on and goes for little walks……. Its been baby steps for sweet missy during her rehabilitation; we don’t like to push her for fear she’ll slip backwards. Her carers 3 children have taught missy how to play with them as she didn’t know what a toy was when she first arrived though now she’s getting the hang of it and enjoys a game of tug-a-war and she’ll even chase a ball these days but they need to work on her bringing it back! its great seeing her have her rare outbursts of “puppy-ness” – it kinda warms our hearts. Well-mannered missy doesn’t chew though she does like to dig herself the occasional hole to lie in on our hot mildura days :)

as missy is already house trained she would be best suited to an indoor / outdoor lifestyle with a friendly doggie companion who can help settle her in to her forever home.
