About Ozzie (D2053)
Ozzie is a very sweet and affectionate little chap. He loves nothing more than to melt in your arms and snuggle in. He is so snuggly, it's really very cute. We're very attached to ozzie and hope he can find the perfect home. Ozzie would be best suited with someone that would be home during the day and likes to have active time with him. He goes on daily walks now and walks well on a lead. Ozzie is an amazing listener and never pushes his boundaries. For instance, we have a baby gate to separate the dogs from the sitting room and although he could easily jump it, he never does. He doesn't even try to push by when we walk through. He's a very good, respectful little boy. We have a feeling he is part kelpie and part chihuahua because of his high intelligence and small size. Ozzie really wants to be obedient and if he does something wrong, a stern no is enough for him to never try it again. Ozzie is the only foster dog our little dog fritz has taken to. I believe it's because he shows fritz so much respect. He doesn't take fritzi's toys from him, eat his food or act in a dominating way towards him. It's a very nice change as the dogs he's usually around do all of those things. The only thing that i would be aware of is that ozzie is very over stimulated at the dog beach. There is too much going on for him and he doesn't understand how to act. He may have been bitten by a large dog in the past because he snarls or growls at them in a defensive way. After talking to an obedience trainer she said some dogs just don't enjoy the overstimulation of many dogs in one environment. She said it's best to have him on a leash going for walks and to meet new dogs in a less full on environment. She was absolutely right! ozzie is thriving walking on his lead and really enjoys going on the odd 3 or 4 km run. He stays focused the whole run and stays to the left of me checking back with me as well. The dog beach is not an option for him so a carer with a nice sized yard or an active person would be best for him. It's really nice that he is a small sized dog so he can snuggle on your lap but can also enjoy long runs like a large sized dog. He is a great guard dog and if anyone gets too close to the house he will alert you right away. It's nice to have him here when i'm home alone. Ozzie was sleeping inside in our laundry room but he also enjoys sleeping outside, with lots of blankets in our side yard, which is protected from view and a nice quiet place for him. In the winter months he would have to sleep in a protected area. Children that are not used to dogs probably are not best for ozzie. As with most dogs, he's afraid of the way kids scream when they play or if they have an unsettling or nervous energy. If the child was older and had experience with dogs then this would be a better match. He does get along with calm children that are used to dogs. Some tricks that he's learned are how to sit and stay. He comes when he's called and listens well. Ozzie plays fetch and loves playing with the stuffed bunny toy his foster dog brother fritz gave hime. He's very gentle and takes treats very delicately from your hand and i have never felt as if he would bite. He really wants to please us. Ozzie is currently located in perth but can be flown anywhere in australia
