About Benji -Desexed and Vaccinated - On Hold
*** on hold -i'm trying a new home! ***
update 4. 6. 12: sadly benji lost his wife, holly, today. He was with her right till the end. He'd been getting more protective of her lately, and wouldn't leave her side. We'll be keeping a close eye on benji to help him through this depressing time. We would like to find him a new home with a female companion he can take care of, as he loved holly so much. Holly and benji were initially rescued from death row in early april, 2010. Fit and healthy, we rehomed them one month later where they lived as indoor bunnies. Sadly, from the beginning we received messages from the owner that he could no longer look after them. However, whenever a time was organised for him to return them, he wouldn't show up. This would occur often. More recently it happened before christmas (2011), and as we were very full asked if he could hold them till after the busy period, which he was happy to do. Sadly however, that is when he began to explain how much their health had declined since adoption, and we organised for him to take them straight to our vets the very next day. Holly had tooth problems, normally due to an incorrect diet, and the owner had taken her to a vet for an operation previously. The ability of this particular vet is in real doubt, as he inserted a drip into her hind leg post surgery, which resulted in atrophy, and had to later be amputated (-yes. . . A leg that was perfectly fine before!). Her teeth condition has persisted, so further surgeries were needed. This is the reason her owner could no longer afford to keep holly and benji, so a special price was offered by our expert vet which he gratefully accepted. Once again he didn't want to return his bunnies, and said he was happy to pay for future costs at the discounted rate. It should have been a great outcome, but when holly had undergone surgery and was ready for pick up, he once again decided that his life was too unstable. It doesn't look like he will be picking up his vet bill either. Because of holly's condition, she is currently on 3 penicillan injections a week. She may need future dental work, and our very generous vet has offered to continue giving holly a lifetime of discounted surgeries to make this more affordable for her future owner. Despite what it sounds like, holly is a very happy rabbit and everyone can see how much she enjoys life. Despite only three legs, this does not slow her down at all, and she is quite capable of living a normal life. All her vegies do need to be cut up into small pieces as she no longer has any front teeth. Obviously we don't expect benji and holly to be a normal adoption case, however our vet has said they would be suitable for rehoming to the right home. Following her advice, they have been listed in the hope that a person out there will fall in love with them as we have. In the meantime, they will continue living and enjoying their time with us. If you think you can provide this gorgeous couple with the sort of care they need, please fill in an adoption form at our website: www. Porschesrescue. Com
for further discussion about their particular medical problems, it is best to contact our vet directly. Let us know, and we can put you in touch. Benji and holly are also looking for sponsorship by anyone kind enough to donate towards their ongoing costs. If you would be interested in this, please contact us
