About Dobell
Dobell and his friend, picasso, were dumped at the pound by their uncaring and neglectful owner. Dobell was in a pitiful state, and unlikely to have survived much longer had he not received treatment. Both boys were living in filth, and didn't know the meaning of tlc. Dobell, despite his short coat, had terrible matting around his behind, and a shave revealed a festering abscess. The puss filled pocket was growing under soggy wet hair, that could never dry due to the unsanitary environment. The boys were forced to walk through faeces and urine all day. Dobell also had an abscess forming on his nose and suffered impaction, where his anus muscles loose their efficiency. This is a common condition for old guinea pigs, and an owner who has dealt with this before is preferable, in case it reoccurs. Dobell arrived so skinny, however did not take long to gain weight and is no longer a walking skeleton. He also suffered scurvy from a diet lacking in vitamin c, which is essential for all guinea pigs. Like with any pet, it is important to research their nutritional needs before going out and buying the cheapest food on the market. If we sound a little angry, it's because we are. Don't get guinea pigs unless you're prepared to give them fresh vegetables every day!
the change in dobell since he arrived is remarkable, and he looks simply amazing. Everyone at the shelter has a really special spot for these boys, who are now ready to find a new home where they will be spoilt. These boys are used to living indoors, as part of a family. They no longer go running to hide when they see humans, but are quite comfortable in the lounge room where they watch tv and get handed special treats. On nice days they enjoy playing on the grass and sunbaking in a playpen. Can you let them continue this life, where they can be happy and forget their previous abuse?
dobell will only be rehomed with his friend, picasso, as we do not separate bonded animals. So please only enquire if you have a home that is right for both these boys. They have so much to give, and deserve to be spoilt for the rest of their days to make up for such a bad start.
