About Harper
All About Me and My Unique Personality:
Harper is a delightful young cat with a lot of love to give. She's a little slow to warm, having been rescued from a hoarding situation, but once settled she's a friendly and playful companion who enjoys being part of family life and will bond strongly with a special someone. She is also curious about guests and doesn’t hide herself away.
Harper has a great balance of playful and easy-going in her personality. She enjoys hunting and chasing games, and whenever someone picks up a cat toy she's ready to go, but when playtime is over she's quite a relaxed and content cat. She does have a cheeky side, though! One of her favourite spots is tucked into the Christmas garland, where she likes to lie in wait like a little jungle cat, and leap out to surprise people walking past. She doesn't actually catch anyone, but she seems to enjoy the game of pretending she could have!
Harper enjoys pats, scritches around her head and neck, and a good brush. She purrs readily, leans into a good scritch and will happily accept the occasional kiss on the nose. Like many cats, she enjoys affection on her own terms. She can become overwhelmed by touch, particularly when she's in hunting mode, and may respond with a gentle bite or swipe of her claws if someone gets the timing wrong. Harper does best with people who are patient and happy to let her dictate when she'd like affection. Harper is also afraid of being picked up or carried, which we have found ways to work on and around.
Harper is a very polite cat. She has an unusually tiny, quiet voice, doesn't yell for food and has lovely manners at mealtimes, whether it's her own dinner or the human variety. She makes sweet, soft little chirps when she is very happy to see someone and receive pats. She's not particularly interested in treats, but eats well and isn't too fussy. Overall she is a delightful, warm and easy cat to have around.
My Ideal Home:
We think that Harper could be happy as a solo cat or with another cat. Although she has not met other cats while being fostered, there were other cats in her previous environment. We also think that Harper could be happy with one person in her life, or a whole family. We don't think that Harper is a good match with young children as she is particular about when she is patted and needs consideration around being handled.
What is Known About My Background:
Harper was rescued from a hoarding situation and spent nearly a year in the shelter waiting to be taken into foster care. There were other cats in her previous environment, however not much is known about how much contact the cats had with each other. Harper is desexed, vaccinated and healthy.
How Do I Interact with Kids, Dogs, Cats and Other Pets:
Harper loves the young high school kid that she currently lives with but has not had the chance to meet any pets. We don't think that Harper is an ideal match with young children.
