Humphrey

Humphrey is a big, sweet gentleman who has discovered that sitting nicely can make treats appear.

It's a wonderful arrangement, really. He gets something delicious, you get to admire his excellent manners, and everybody goes home happy. This handsome Mastiff is incredibly responsive to treats, and it's hard not to fall for his lovely personality.

Humphrey arrived at our shelter as a stray, but he's already made a great impression on the people caring for him. He's wonderfully easy to handle and harness, enjoys his walks and is generally quite relaxed on lead, although he can occasionally get a little enthusiastic and pull. He also has a sweet, sociable side around other dogs, greeting them with a gentle tail wag and showing some lovely doggy manners during his assessments.

While Humphrey is a friendly boy, he can sometimes feel a little unsure about unfamiliar people, dogs or places. The good news? His confidence tends to grow quite quickly once he's had a chance to work things out. His new family can help him along with gentle handling, gradual introductions and plenty of positive, reward-based training. He can also get quite excited at times, so keeping interactions calm and giving him a chance to settle will help him put those good manners to use.

Humphrey is suited to a home with secondary school aged children or older and may be suitable to live with another well matched dog following a successful meet and greet. As a larger breed, he'll benefit from maintaining a healthy weight and regular joint-friendly exercise. He'll also need some simple dental home care, such as appropriate dental treats or tooth brushing, to keep his teeth in good shape.

There's a lot to love about Humphrey. He's sweet, clever, friendly and already knows that good things happen when he listens to his people. All he needs now is a family to share his walks, his quiet moments and, of course, the occasional well-earned snack.
