About Archie
Archie is 20 months old and is a Standard Poodle cross English Sheepdog. He is approximately 30 kgs. Archie loves every dog he meets and he must be rehomed with another calm, well-adjusted, medium size canine friend. No exceptions.
Due to his very sad origins (a horrendous breeding facility) Archie has a fear of sudden movements towards him and of being cornered or shut in enclosed spaces. Although he has overcome most of this fear his new family must be prepared to be patient and give him time to adjust to his new surroundings. He is very smart and is quick to learn who to trust, responding well to gentle calm voices and offerings. He especially loves to be close to a male who has a gentle nature.
Archie is food motivated.so food has been, and is, used as a valuable tool to help him transition into a normal household environment.
Archie is gentle with children and seems to understand the word ‘gentle’. He is curious and wants to sniff and investigate all new people and experiences. He is sociable with all dogs when introduced and forms firm bonds with confident dogs of any size.
Archie can be playful and chooses toys from his collection especially the ‘chew’ toys. He is good playing on his own or with other dogs. He has learnt to run after a ball and will drop it if asked or when approached. Archie has learnt to sit, and recall to his name. If unsupervised one of his favourite activities is to pick up any socks or shoes lying around as he thinks they are great chew toys with a lovely odour! Unfortunately these items never look the same again!.
Archie is toilet trained, and relaxes and sleeps well in the house. He would love to have a home with a large garden or acres to explore, and would be most suited to a couple or family with a confident resident dog.
