About Teddy
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Teddy - 9kgs
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance as an owner surrender with his friend Gidget
BREED: Japanese Spitz x Pomeranian
BREED TRAITS: Japanese - Spitz: they are a bit larger than their cousins the Pomeranian. They are smart so easily trainable, and an active, happy playful breed. They enjoy outings, getting good exercise and most important, being with their people. They are companion dogs so leaving them alone all day won’t work. Spitz do require a good brush at least once a week and bathing occasionally so as not to wash the natural oils out of their coat. They love their people and love to please.
Pomeranian - a small breed that has a confident, curious and spirited nature makes them great companion dogs. Being small with a fragile build they require careful handling and supervision around children and larger animals. They have a double coat which requires regular grooming. They are intelligent, affectionate and playful and have a medium energy level. They adapt well to apartment living but not to being alone and need to be kept cool on hot days. Affectionate with family they need to be socialised with dogs from a young age. Pomeranians are an intelligent breed that takes well to training.
***************************************************
ASSETS: He’s easy-going, affectionate, eager to please and very sweet! He’s a complete joy to have around! He is timid around males when first meeting them but warms up once he’s comfortable around them.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Teddy isn’t really into toys; he prefers attention and snuggles! He’s learning to walk on his lead, and he thoroughly enjoys sniffing around the neighbourhood when out on his daily walk. He also travels well in the car and when he’s back home, he’s happy to curl up with his person for lots of cuddles. He also enjoys having his coat brushed.
ENDEARING FEATURES: Teddy has a gorgeous personality and is very well behaved inside the house.
OTHER ANIMALS: Teddy has grown up with Gidget and when out together they will bark at other dogs when they see them - we would expect their new owner to work on this reactivity if homed together. He may be able to live with another small, friendly dog pending a meet and greet and we would need any prospective adopter to travel to Esperance with their dog for a meet. Teddy hasn’t been tested with cats so we would prefer a dog-only home for him.
GENERAL INFO: Teddy is housetrained and will bark when someone comes to the door and at strangers - they do tend to set each other off. He’s not destructive and knows how to sit when asked. He is working on his recall and is progressing well. He loves his human company so would not suit full-time workers or being left for long periods of time. He would suit a calmer, quiet home.
ESSENTIALS for Teddy:
** A loving home where he’s given time to settle in and get comfortable. He would prefer to have someone home for most of the day with him or can take him with them when they go out.
** Teddy will need daily exercise, playtime and mental activity.
** Teddy needs a well fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.
** Teddy needs to be given access inside the home when you are there and to sleep inside at night.
** Teddy will need regular grooming to keep his coat clean and knot free.
Teddy could go well in a home with gentle, dog-savvy older children or an adult only home. He can be adopted with his brother Gidget or we may consider homing him with another smallish dog with a similar energy level to play with, dependent on meet.
If Teddy sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
