About Kai
Hello there! I’m Kai, and I’m officially accepting applications for my forever family.

My Ideal Home:
• Familiarity and understanding of my breed traits would be highly valued.
• Ongoing training and guidance with basic manners will help me grow into a well-behaved companion.
• I want to be part of the family indoors — not left outside without interaction.
• Secure fencing (6ft Colorbond or equivalent) is essential to keep me safe.
• I’d love plenty of toys and mental enrichment to keep my busy mind occupied.
• Regular grooming and brushing will keep me looking and feeling my best.
• Most importantly, I’m looking for lots of love and attention from my family.
• When I get excited, I can be a little bouncy and mouthy, so any children in the home would need to feel comfortable and confident around an energetic, enthusiastic dog joining the family.
• I’m used to a quiet, mature household and would love a similar environment.
• Because I may have had a sheltered start and can be shy in new situations, continued socialisation will really help build my confidence. I’m already becoming braver at the shelter!
• I’m looking for a family who will cherish and care for me throughout my golden years.
• A calm, gentle FEMALE dog companion may suit me, as boisterous dogs can be overwhelming. I’ll benefit from gradual, positive socialisation, although I adore people and would also be perfectly happy as your one and only.
• I was unsure around cats at the shelter and may become more inquisitive as my confidence grows. If I join a home with a cat, they’ll need to be dog-savvy and introductions must be gradual and well managed.
My Paw-some Perks:
• I’m a very happy boy with the cutest little wiggle-butt and tippy taps when I’m excited.
• I’m gentle and placid in nature, and I’ve had some basic obedience training — I’m generally a well-mannered dog. I know my basic commands like sit, shake and stay, and I’m always eager to learn more.
• I walk nicely on lead and with daily walks I’ll only keep improving, I can be a little stubborn at times, especially if I don't want to go the way your going!
• I absolutely love attention, cuddles, hugs, kisses and head scratches, and I’m quite partial to snoozing on the couch with my humans.
• I LOVE toys — especially my ball! Fetch and tug-of-war are some of my favourite games.
Training/Support Needs:
• I can be a little bouncy when excited, but consistent training will help me learn calmer behaviours.
• I can be nervous around other dogs and may react if they’re too full-on or reactive towards me. Controlled, positive socialisation experiences will help me build confidence and learn that other dogs aren’t so scary.
• I can feel anxious when left alone in the backyard and may become vocal, barking or whining. A home where I can spend plenty of time indoors, have lots of company, and be provided with enrichment toys or treats when alone would suit me best.
• I’m not housetrained yet, as I haven’t previously been allowed inside, so I’ll need guidance and consistency to learn.
• I can be scared of thunder and fireworks and may bark or whine during storms. I’ll need a safe, secure space to retreat to, along with comfort and reassurance from my family.
Please Note: You’ll only be able to meet Kai if your application is approved. Successful applicants will be invited to the shelter for a meet-and-greet, and any dogs currently in the home must attend as well
PLEASE NOTE: Shelter staff make the final decision based on determining if the applicant can meet the animal’s needs (lifestyle, home environment, experience) Our goal is to ensure a permanent home that sets both the animal and new family up for success.
Shelter staff reserve the right to deny an adoption if they determine the animal's specific needs do not match the applicant's lifestyle.
Medical notes
Kai has some mild alopecia on his ears which looks to be from fly strike. He will require some fly repellent in the summer months to prevent this from happening again.
