About Lou
Lou went from hiding in his carrier to greeting his favourite people at the door. And what a lovely little transformation it's been!
When Lou first arrived at our shelter as a stray, the unfamiliar surroundings were simply too much for him. He preferred hiding away, keeping his distance and hoping the world would become a little less frightening.
But then Lou went into foster care, and we discovered a completely different cat!
Within just a couple of days, Lou started finding his courage. Before long, he was confidently exploring the apartment, greeting his foster carers when they came home and curling up beside them on the couch or bed. Turns out, he's quite the affectionate little gentleman!
His favourite things? Chin scratches, head rubs, chasing balls and the occasional game with a string toy. He's also quite the little shadow once he's comfortable with you, happily enjoying your company throughout the day.
Of course, Lou still has his sensitive side. Unfamiliar visitors and loud noises can send him looking for somewhere quiet, so he'd appreciate a calm home where he can feel safe.
He also has some opinions about how he likes to be petted. Head and chin scratches? Absolutely! Belly and back-leg rubs? No thank you! Lou can give a little nip when he's had enough, so his new family will need to pay attention to his body language and respect his boundaries.
A quiet home without young children would suit Lou beautifully. He'll need a gentle introduction to his new surroundings, starting with a comfortable room of his own. He had a couple of toileting accidents during his initial adjustment in foster care but has since been using his litter tray reliably. Providing several accessible litter trays and gradually introducing him to the rest of the home will help him settle.
The best part about Lou? We've already seen the wonderful cat he becomes when he feels safe.
He's affectionate, playful and genuinely enjoys being around his favourite people. Now he just needs someone willing to give him that same chance to feel at home again.
Lou is part of our Rescue or Rehome program, where we are committed to finding homes for cats and kittens who simply cannot cope in the shelter environment. If you can open your heart and home to Lou - or if you're a rescue group able to help - please reach out to us at adoptions@dogshome.com
