About Rufus
Rufus has one small request: could everyone please slow down a little? This handsome young gentleman is still getting used to the world around him, and he'd much rather take his time getting acquainted than rush straight into a friendship.
Rufus arrived at our shelter as a stray, and all the unfamiliar sights, sounds and people have been a little overwhelming. He's a shy boy who prefers to observe things from a safe distance before deciding whether he's ready to interact. Sometimes he'll offer a little hiss when he's feeling nervous, but that's simply his way of asking for some space.
And there have already been some encouraging little moments! Rufus has shown curiosity towards toys and has even leaned into gentle scratches from a soft scratcher. He's still figuring out whether human attention is something he enjoys, but those small moments are a lovely start.
Rufus would appreciate a calm, patient family who can give him a quiet space to settle and let him approach people when he's ready. He can be nervous about being handled or moved, so gentle interactions and keeping all four paws on the ground will help him feel more comfortable. With time, familiar routines and plenty of positive experiences, we'd love to see what other little quirks and personality traits this young boy has waiting to share.
Rufus might not be ready to roll out the welcome mat just yet, but that doesn't mean he isn't worth getting to know. Sometimes the sweetest friendships begin with a little patience, a quiet hello and someone willing to let you take things at your own pace.
We encourage you to come and meet Rufus at our North Melbourne shelter as soon as possible, as our cats cannot be placed on hold.
