About Gertie
** Gertie is critical in a NSW
Animal Shelter due to environmental stress,Goodwill Rescue Ltd have been asked to help find a foster to adopt or adopter **
When Gertie came into care, she was very fearful. For the first few days she would cower in her room and growl and bark at staff to leave her alone. When in the yard she would run away or hide if staff tried to interact with her. She is still quite wary when meeting new people and will seek out those she trusts. She has been in care for some time now and has become very happy to see all the staff and she will come running, tail wagging excited to cuddle and play. All new people are likely to need a slow introduction to build her trust, but this is happening a lot quicker than previously. Gertie has shown some playful behaviours through the fence with other dogs, but we have been unable to proof her sociability due to limited availability of suitable dogs. With people Gertie trusts, she can be very excited and jumpy and will need some training in this area, but once she gets the excited meet and greet out of the way this does stop and she loves hanging out with humans and most importantly loves endless cuddles, touch is very important to her to make her feel calm. A confident carer is required for this girl to build her confidence and give her exposure to the word and all the things in it. Gertie has not been cat tested.
**Gertie really struggles in her kennel when there is activity around the facility, constantly jumping up the kennel wall in quite a heightened state which can be hard to break. This has increased with her length of stay.
