About Athena
Meet Athena – A Much Loved Eight Year Old German Shepherd
Athena is a beautiful eight year old German Shepherd who is looking for a new family to love. Through no fault of her own, her owners have made the incredibly difficult decision to find her a new home due to changes in their family circumstances.
The family has recently moved to a home with a much smaller yard, and with health issues within the family, they are no longer able to provide Athena with the space, time, attention and exercise she needs and deserves.
They have tried different ways to manage her needs alongside their personal circumstances, but have come to the heartbreaking realisation that Athena would be better suited to a home where she can enjoy more attention, regular walks and the care she needs to thrive.
Athena is a much-loved member of the family, and this decision has certainly not been made lightly. They love her dearly and rehoming her is something they never wanted to do. However, they want to put Athena's needs first and give her the best possible opportunity to enjoy the quality of life she deserves.
A little about Athena
Athena enjoys her morning and evening walks and walks well on a lead. She has had some basic obedience training and knows her commands, including sit, stay, come and drop.
She isn't a fan of storms, but is clever enough to know when one is approaching and will happily retreat to her crate for comfort and security.
Athena is social with other dogs, and the family have regularly had other dogs stay with her for periods of a few weeks at a time.
What Athena is looking for
We are seeking a home where Athena will be included as part of the family, rather than simply being a dog who lives in the backyard. She would benefit from a stable home environment, with structure, a daily routine, regular exercise and plenty of companionship.
We always recommend continuing your dog's training after bringing them home. Training doesn't have to be a chore – it can be an enjoyable experience for you both. Even short sessions are a wonderful way to build trust, strengthen your bond and help your new companion settle into family life.
At eight years of age, Athena still has plenty of love and companionship to give. For someone with prior dog experience, particularly with large breeds, she could be a wonderful addition to the family.
If you can offer Athena the loving home, attention and companionship she deserves, she is ready to begin her next chapter and share many more happy adventures with you.
Athena is currently available for adoption in NSW, ACT, Queensland and Victoria. If you're interested in making her a cherished member of your family, you'll need to drive with your loved ones to meet him. Should she, for any reason, not be the perfect fit for your family, you would be responsible for either bringing her back to Sydney or helping us rehome her from your home.
If Athena sounds like the perfect match for your household, click on the "Enquire about Athena" link, and we will send you some information about adopting a German Shepherd, or go to our website and complete the application form.

Adoption details
We have an Adoptions Manager who screens all prospective candidates as to their suitability to adopt a German Shepherd Dog.
We try to contact every one by phone but if that isn't successful we will email our application form to you, which needs to be completed and returned, or you can call us back and we can chat and complete for you. We will also ask you to provide photos of your yard and fencing to enable us to see where the dog will be kept and that they have areas of shade and shelter.
All our dogs are ready to go to their new home, so when you enquire about a dog you must be in a position to take them into your home. We are unable to hold a dog while you fix your fences or go on holiday, etc.
The successful candidate who adopts one of our dogs is provided with an information kit, ongoing support, training and advice on all aspects of feeding, training and general assistance to ensure both the new owner and our rescued dog settle into their home.
