About 4 Bean Salad
4 Bean Salad might have one of the funniest names in the shelter, but right now, this little guy would much rather keep a low profile.
Affectionately known as Bean, this handsome tabby and white boy arrived as a stray with no identification, and shelter life has been quite overwhelming for him. His preferred approach to unfamiliar situations is to stay very still, tuck himself away and hope everything settles down around him.
But there's one thing that can convince Bean to come out of his shell just a little: creamy treats! He's quite the enthusiastic eater once something tasty is offered, even bringing his head forward to enjoy a snack. He's also gradually becoming more accepting of gentle pats, although he's not quite ready to lean into affection or seek attention himself. For Bean, simply feeling comfortable enough to eat while someone is nearby is already a meaningful little step forward.
Bean isn't going to be the cat who rushes over to greet you on your first meeting, and that's okay. What he needs is a quiet home, a cosy safe space and someone who understands that trust isn't built overnight. Sitting quietly with him, offering his favourite treats and allowing him to decide when he's ready for interaction will help him learn that having people around can be a good thing.
Sometimes the cats who need us most are the ones who don't yet know how to ask for help. Bean may have a long way to go before he feels completely comfortable, but he deserves the opportunity to discover what life can be like when he no longer has to feel afraid.
Bean is part of our Rescue or Rehome program, where we are committed to finding homes for cats and kittens who simply cannot cope in the shelter environment. If you can open your heart and home to Bean - or if you're a rescue group able to help - please reach out to us at adoptions@dogshome.com
