About Mittens
Meet Mittens, a beautiful tortoiseshell girl with the kindest heart and not a single mean bone in her body. This gorgeous little flow is looking for a new home where she can really blossom.
Born in July 2021 and adopted from the pound in May 2024, she has always been a sweetheart and quickly became a much-loved companion. But life recently became a bit too chaotic for her gentle nature when her owner’s relationship ended she had to move back in with her parents on their farm, complete with multiple dogs and multiple cats. Mittens found herself living in a shed with a catio, and with her person working two jobs there simply wasn’t enough quiet time or calm for this sensitive girl to feel settled.
Her owner loved her deeply and made the difficult decision that Mittens deserved better - a peaceful home where she could finally relax and be herself.
And relax she has.
In foster care Mittens has become a completely different cat. Most cats hide under the bed for days when they first arrive somewhere new but not Mittens. We were told to expect Mittens to be quite shy at first but she has adapted to her new foster home almost instantly. No shyness and no hiding, the day she arrived she had a bite to eat, had a nap and generally looked quite relaxed. Before long she was stretching out in the living area as if she had lived there her entire life. No hiding, no lingering shyness, just a soft, content girl clearly thrilled to have a quiet house all to herself. The transformation has been wonderful to watch.
Mittens is incredibly loving and gentle. She is one of those rare cats who will happily let you pick her up and carry her around like a baby, and she will even tolerate a bath without complaint. She is cuddly, adores a good smooch, and once she knows you she has so much affection to give.
While she can be a little shy when first meeting new people or arriving somewhere brand new, she has already shown how quickly that melts away when the environment is calm and kind.
She gets along with other cats, dogs and people, and would do well in a peaceful home with a patient person who can give her time and quiet company. A calm older cat could also be a lovely match if introductions are taken slowly.
Most of all she needs somewhere soft and stable where she can feel safe, comfortable and thoroughly loved.
Mittens is approximately 5 years old, has been desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and is located with her amazing foster mum in Glen Waverley.
If you are looking for a tolerant, affectionate tortoiseshell who will fill your home with gentle cuddles and quiet companionship, Mittens is ready to leave the chaos behind and settle into a life of warm laps, soft beds and peaceful days.
Please get in touch if you think you can offer this lovely girl the calm, loving home she so clearly deserves.
About Us
Urban Feline Australia is a small, independent cat rescue dedicated to saving surrendered cats from kill shelters and finding them loving, permanent homes.
Founded and run by a passionate animal lover with the support of dedicated friends and volunteers, we specialise in caring for cats that have previously lived in family homes but, for various reasons, can no longer stay with their owners.
Since our inception, we have been fortunate to build a small but dedicated network of volunteer foster carers. These compassionate individuals welcome the surrendered cats into their homes, providing them with love, care, and a safe environment while we search for their perfect forever families.
As a tiny, grassroots rescue with no government funding or large facilities, every rescue is powered by compassion, community support, and a genuine commitment to animal welfare.
All adoption fees and donations go directly toward the essential needs of the cats in our care — including premium food, veterinary treatment, litter, equipment, and ongoing medical support. We rely heavily on the generosity of our foster carers, volunteers, and supporters to continue our work.
Our long-term vision is to expand so we can help even more cats in need. This includes securing a larger dedicated property and, one day, possibly opening a cat café to raise awareness and funds while creating a welcoming space for cat lovers.
How You Can Help

We are always in need of foster carers. If you have a safe, loving temporary home and would like to help us care for a cat on their journey to their forever family, please get in touch. The more foster homes we have, the more cats we can save.

Adoption details
We try to make things very easy and straight forward while at the same time making sure we are matching the right cat to the right home.
The first step in the adoption process is a quick chat over the phone to make you are able meet the cats needs and your home is a good fit for the cats personality.
From there we will organize a meet and greet the cats foster home where you will be able to see the cat in action and get a gauge of their personality.
Once you have adopted you new furry feline friend we offer ongoing support and you are welcome to contact us anytime if you have questions, concerns or need advice.
We work hard to make sure that each cat is a good fit for their new home but in the unlikely even that things do not work out we have a 21 day cooling off period and you are more than welcome to return the cat to us during that time.
We will happily refund 50% of the adoption fee or you are welcome to donate this refund to assist with the ongoing cost of the animals care.
The rescue group is no longer taking adoption applications for this pet.
