About Zohran
Zohran takes his friendships very seriously. There's an initial observation period, a little background checking, possibly a snack involved, and then, if you've earned his approval, a surprisingly enthusiastic headbutt!
This handsome tabby arrived at our shelter as a stray, and initially, he wasn't particularly impressed with the whole situation. Unfamiliar people, strange noises and a completely new environment? He'd rather observe everything from a safe distance, thank you very much. For a while, even the promise of a delicious creamy treat wasn't enough to convince him otherwise.
But Zohran has been making some wonderful progress, and we're starting to discover what a little sweetheart he really is! Give him a quiet space, a gentle approach and a few minutes to work things out, and you might find yourself meeting a completely different cat. He's gone from nervously watching people to offering headbutts, rubbing his face against their hands and even making little biscuits while enjoying a good pat. He's also discovered that creamy treats are actually quite delicious, especially when served by someone he trusts.
Of course, Zohran still has his cautious moments. Sudden movements and unfamiliar situations can send him retreating to his safe spot, and he's not quite ready for lots of handling or overwhelming attention. He'd be happiest in a calm, adults-only home with someone who understands that affection is best when it's offered on his terms. A predictable routine, a cosy place to retreat and gentle, positive interactions will help him continue building his confidence.
The funny thing about Zohran is that once he decides you're a friend, he seems to forget he was supposed to be playing hard to get. All those cautious little glances can turn into headbutts, happy rubbing and requests for more attention. He's already come such a long way, and we'd love to see how much more of his lovely personality comes out when he finally feels at home.
We encourage you to come and meet Zohran at our North Melbourne shelter as soon as possible, as our cats cannot be placed on hold.
