Honcho

We have been fostering Honcho for almost 4 months now. I would describe him as a dignified goofball, a soft-hearted gentle giant who would do absolutely anything for his family.

Honcho defintiely picks out a person and focuses the majority of his love and attention on them. There seems to be a bit of a ranking system in the house - when number 1 is out number 2 becomes the focus and so on down the ranks.

Honcho has several self-appointed roles which he takes very seriously.

Chief of Security : rest assured that with Honcho you will never get burgled. Regular perimeter checks, statuesque poses by the door, bag inspections. He has the job down.

Personal Trainer : if you would like to get a work-out in, hand Honcho a raggy toy. He will run, tug, leap and yoink for as long as you can hold onto the other end. When you feel you have had enough exercise simply let go.

Film Critic - nature movies usually get a thumbs up. Don’t try to watch Shrek. Donkey rubs him up the wrong way and he will shout at the TV until the wretched creature is gone.

Food critic - Honcho likes to be included when you’re eating. He is quite obvious about his feelings toward the meal - if good he will stick around, if bad one humph and hes gone. To be honest his opinion is usually fair.

Honcho is an amazing dog who has not had the easiest of lives.

He does not need heaps of exercise, his walks are more for him to sniff and engage his brain.

He walks nicely on lead, however is still quite jumpy if he sees a stranger or another dog so you need to keep space at all times.

At home Honcho is perfect, he is fine being left alone, never destructive and fully housetrained.

We have absolutely loved having him as part of our family but it is time he finds a permanent home as we are not in a position to offer him stability long term.

If you love big, goofy dogs and don’t mind putting in some training and taking extra care around strangers Honcho is your boy. He’s a hunka chunka love waiting for his forever person and he deserves all the love in the world.
