About Duggie
Hi, I’m Duggie,
I’m around 7 years old and I’m a gentle little soul with a whole lot of love to give. Cuddles are one of my absolute favourite things, especially before bed, although I’m quite happy to “suffer through” them at any time of the day.
If I haven’t had enough attention for a few hours, I may gently remind you that I’ve been terribly neglected for what feels like at least a week. Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating a little, but I do love affection and I’m very good at letting you know when I’m due for some TLC.
I’m a very polite little man too. I take treats gently, I don’t snatch, and I’m quite a dainty eater. My absolute favourite is chicken. I’m not overly fussed on wet food, but my foster mum has worked out that if she mixes some chicken through it, I suddenly become a lot more interested. Funny that. I’m more of a grazer with my dry food and like having a little bit available to nibble on throughout the day. I also enjoy my Dentastix.
I’m house trained and generally very good inside. I have had the occasional accident, but only when I haven’t been able to get outside when I needed to. If my foster mum is up during the night, I’m always happy to pop outside for a quick wander. I also enjoy car rides and love being part of whatever is going on. At night I might sleep on the bed or curl up on the lounge, depending on where I feel most comfortable.
I currently live with other dogs and I’m also good with visiting dogs, but I can be a little bit of the jealous type when it comes to attention. Because of that, my foster carer thinks I’d probably be best suited to a home without another equally attention-loving little dog who wants to compete for all the cuddles (or even as an only dog - home with you all the time to shower me in attention!). A calm, easygoing canine companion may still be something we could consider for the right home though.
My foster carer thinks I’d be especially well suited to an older couple, or perhaps a quieter family with teenage children. I really do have such a lovely, gentle nature and I’m happiest when I can be close to my people and enjoy plenty of one-on-one attention.
I also have some good news. When I first came into care, I tested positive for heartworm, but I have now undergone treatment and I’m currently completing the final part of my medication plan. I’m on a short course of steroids which is gradually reducing over the coming weeks before treatment is officially complete (approx end of October)
I’ve been such a good little patient throughout the whole process, and apparently I’ve won over just about everyone at the vet clinic along the way. They’ve all commented on how beautifully behaved I’ve been during treatment, even through some pretty uncomfortable injections.
There are still some important ongoing requirements following heartworm treatment. I’ll need to remain on monthly heartworm prevention until June 2027, followed by ongoing annual heartworm prevention injections to help keep me protected from reinfection. Because I’ve had heartworm, it’s also best that I’m not overly exerted with long runs or intense exercise. Luckily for me, I’m much more interested in cuddles, car rides and relaxing with my people anyway.
What I really need now is a calm, loving home where I can spend plenty of time with my people, enjoy lots of affection and be thoroughly spoilt.
If you’re looking for a gentle, affectionate little companion who will happily soak up every cuddle you’re willing to give, I might just be your little man.-
