About Suko
Suko has the looks of a fearless adventurer, but he'd quite like to check that everything is safe before setting off on his next expedition.
This gorgeous Siberian Husky is almost three years old, and while he might be a little shy about making new friends, there's a lovely, playful boy waiting to show himself once he feels comfortable.
Suko came into our care after his previous family could no longer look after him. He's used to sharing his life with people and other animals, but finding himself in a completely new environment has been a little overwhelming. He's a sensitive boy who likes to take his time getting to know unfamiliar faces and places. He might approach cautiously, have a little look around and decide he needs another moment before saying hello. But give him some patience and reassurance, and you'll start to see that confidence grow.
One thing that brings out Suko's playful side? Other dogs! During his behaviour assessment, he showed some lovely social skills with a female dog, even offering a play bow to see if she'd like to join in the fun. He can get quite excited during these interactions, so he'll benefit from gradual introductions and positive experiences with suitable doggy friends. Suko may be suitable to live with another well-matched dog following a successful meet and greet, although he's historically been less comfortable around male dogs. Finding the right match will be important!
Suko is looking for a calm, adults-only household with people who understand that confidence takes time to build. He's still learning to feel comfortable around unfamiliar people and environments, particularly when it comes to handling and having his harness put on.
His new family will need to read his body language, respect his boundaries and use gentle, positive training to help him feel safe. The encouraging news is that his confidence has already been improving when he's given space to explore!
He already knows how to sit, and apparently has a little bowl-tapping routine when it comes to food. At least he's got his priorities sorted! He can pull a little on lead, but with patient guidance and regular positive experiences, there's plenty of opportunity to build his walking confidence too.
As a Husky, Suko will appreciate regular exercise, interesting activities and plenty of mental enrichment as he settles into his new life. That magnificent fluffy coat will also need regular brushing to keep it looking its best. He has a few health considerations that our veterinary team will explain before adoption.
Suko doesn't need someone to rush him into becoming the most confident dog in the world. He just needs someone who'll help him discover that the world can be a pretty wonderful place. With patience, kindness, a few good doggy friendships and plenty of adventures at his own pace, this beautiful boy has so much potential to blossom.
No appointment is needed, so come and visit Suko at our North Melbourne shelter. If you're interested in adopting him, our team can arrange a meet and greet. If you have another dog at home, please bring them along so they can meet Suko too.
