About Rex
Rex is a big, handsome boy with a wonderfully affectionate side and plenty of love to give. He can be timid with new people, but once he’s comfortable, his personality shines. He loves attention, approaches his people for affection and particularly enjoys belly rubs and butt scratches.
Despite his size, Rex is gentle. He takes treats softly, knows how to sit and responds well to direction. He may occasionally jump up when excited or seeking attention, but stops when told “no” and understands when affection time is over.
Rex enjoys walks and generally walks nicely on lead, though he can pull. Because he is large and strong, he needs someone confident and physically capable of handling him.
He appears to have some good manners already. He avoids toileting indoors, suggesting he may have been already been house trained, and he travels beautifully in the car.
Rex has been calm and non-aggressive around other dogs, including enthusiastic yappy neighbours, though he has not yet had full introductions with resident dogs, so we cannot promise compatibility with another dog. He has not been tested with cats.
Rex needs an adult home because his size, strength and occasional enthusiasm could be overwhelming for children. His new family should be willing to continue working on his lead manners, confidence and general training, while building on his responsiveness, affection and understanding of boundaries.
Rex is a sweet, affectionate and soft-natured big guy looking for someone who appreciates larger dogs. Give him time to get to know you, and you’ll soon have a devoted companion asking you to pause everything for the much more important matter of his belly rubs. ❤️
