About Cookie
Meet Cookie!
Cookie is a sweet, smart young girl who is looking for a loving home where she can be welcomed inside and included as part of the family. She has a gentle nature and forms strong bonds with her people, but she can be a little unsure when faced with new environments or unfamiliar people.
Cookie may need some extra time to settle into her new home, so her new family should take things at her pace and allow her to build confidence gradually. Spending quality time together and helping her feel safe and secure before introducing her to new experiences will set her up for success.
This clever girl is highly food motivated and already knows commands such as sit, shake and down. She will thrive with continued positive reinforcement training and will enjoy learning new skills and tricks alongside her family.
When Cookie becomes focused on something interesting, such as a particularly exciting scent or a snuffle mat full of treats, she can be easily distracted and her recall becomes less reliable. Her adopters will need to continue working on recall and engagement training in a secure environment before considering any off-lead activities outside of her yard.
During her time in care, Cookie was far more interested in exploring the world around her than playing with toys. As she settles into a home environment and gains confidence, her playful side may continue to emerge.
To keep her busy and mentally stimulated, we recommend incorporating food-based enrichment into her daily routine. KONGs, wobblers, snuffle mats, egg cartons, cardboard boxes and treat-filled bottles are all great ways to engage her mind and encourage natural foraging behaviours.
Cookie may be suitable for a family with older, calm and respectful children who can understand when she needs space. Any children in the home must meet her prior to adoption.
Cookie is able to meet other dogs and is generally social, non-reactive and interested in making friends. However, she prefers dogs that are polite and respectful of her boundaries. If another dog is too pushy or invasive, Cookie will initially choose to move away and create distance, but may become tense and growl if her signals are ignored. For this reason, any resident dogs must meet her prior to adoption, and she would do best with a calm, well-mannered canine companion.
With patience, understanding and continued training, Cookie is sure to blossom into a wonderful and devoted companion who will reward her family with plenty of love, loyalty and affection.
