Let me tell you about Tova..... ❤️

Tova is a beautiful, medium sized Smithfield Collie, approximately 2 years old, with the sweetest personality and a heart that just wants to belong to someone.

She's snuggly, affectionate, friendly and absolutely adores her people. If you're looking for a dog who wants to be by your side, soak up your love and be part of your everyday life, Tova might just be your girl.

She would happily spend her entire day curled up on your lap, covering you in kisses and reminding you just how much she loves you. ❤️

But Tova's story hasn't always been a happy one.

Before coming into care, Tova experienced a life where the things every dog deserves, like a full belly, kindness, security and love, weren't always available to her.

And sadly, some of those experiences have left their mark.

Tova shows signs of having been physically hurt in the past. If she thinks you've picked something up to hit her with, she will sometimes cower and crawl, expecting something awful to happen.

It's heartbreaking to see a dog so full of love react with such fear.

And when you've spent your life without the things that should have been guaranteed, learning that they're not going to disappear can take time.

For Tova, some of that insecurity shows up as resource guarding around other dogs.

Tova loves her food, and she absolutely adores her favourite humans. Sometimes, when another dog approaches either of those things, she becomes upset.

It's important to understand that Tova doesn't dislike other dogs. She's actually quite capable of interacting and socialising with them happily!

Her difficulties arise when food or attention from her favourite people becomes involved.

For this reason, we believe Tova would be happiest as the only dog in her forever home.

And here's the thing about Tova...

She's a genuinely wonderful little dog who has so much love to give. ❤️

With someone who understands resource guarding, is willing to work alongside a good trainer and has the patience to help her build confidence and security, we believe Tova can continue to make wonderful progress.

She doesn't need someone to feel sorry for her.

She needs someone who understands that the things we take for granted, like knowing dinner will always come and that affection doesn't have to be competed for, are things she's still learning to trust.

Someone who will give her consistency, reassurance and the opportunity to finally feel safe.

A little more about Tova:

👧 She's lovely with children.

🐕 She can socialise with other dogs, but we recommend she lives as an only dog.

❤️ She's incredibly affectionate, cuddly and absolutely loves human company.

🏡 She needs a patient, committed family willing to help her continue building confidence.

Tova has shown no aggression towards people. Her challenges have been around sharing resources with other dogs, something her difficult past may help explain.

We don't want to hide the things Tova needs help with, because finding the right home means being honest about who she is, even when that means acknowledging the parts of her that are still healing.

And who she is, underneath those insecurities, is a beautiful, loving little dog who has spent far too long missing out on the things that should have been hers all along.

A full belly.

A safe place to sleep.

Gentle hands that will never hurt her.

And a family who loves her just as much as she loves them.

Tova doesn't need a perfect person. She needs a patient, committed one who understands that love is more than cuddles and kisses. Sometimes it's about helping someone feel safe enough to believe they're finally home.

She's already got so much love to give.

Now she just needs someone who will give it back, for the rest of her life. ❤️
