About Barney
🐾 Meet Barney – A Loyal Snuggle Bug with Plenty of Energy! 🐾
Barney is a friendly, affectionate boy with a big personality and plenty of energy to burn. He loves being outside, playing with other dogs and making the most of his surroundings, but he also has a softer side. His foster carer describes him as a real snuggle bug who loves sleeping on the bed and has all the makings of a wonderfully faithful companion.
Barney would suit an active home with a securely fenced yard and opportunities for daily exercise and play. He currently enjoys walks around the neighbourhood and trips to the dog park, generally getting around an hour of exercise. He loves tennis balls and squeaky toys, and while he's good out and about, he's a strong boy who pulls quite a bit on lead, so some ongoing lead training would be beneficial.
He's toilet trained, has good house manners and knows sit and stay. He's comfortable being left alone for around four to six hours and, in his foster home, stays inside with access to the yard when his carer is out. He's friendly when meeting new people and has been easy to manage around traffic, bikes, skateboards and everyday noises.
Barney has grown up with a young child and has a close bond with him. His previous owner describes them as best mates, with Barney being particularly gentle and watchful around the child. He has also lived happily with his sister, with no reported food-guarding issues, and his foster carer has had no problems with him around other animals. However, Barney can be vocal when he sees other dogs, particularly on lead, barking and sometimes pulling towards them. His owner believes this is often an invitation to play rather than aggression, and reports no history of fights with other dogs. As with any dog, introductions to new canine companions should be managed sensibly.
One important consideration for Barney's new family is veterinary handling. He can find vet examinations and routine procedures, including nail trims, challenging and currently needs a pre-appointment medication protocol to help him remain calm enough for safe handling. This is not full sedation, but it is an ongoing management requirement that his new family will need to be prepared to discuss with their vet and continue as needed.
Barney has a lovely combination of energy, friendliness and affection. He enjoys getting out and about, playing with his favourite toys and being close to his people. He's looking for a family who can give him regular exercise, help him continue developing his lead manners and understand his veterinary handling needs. In return, Barney could be a devoted companion who will happily join you for an adventure before settling in for a cuddle – or claiming a spot on your bed!
