About Bruce
πΎπ MEET BRUCE β AKA BRUTUS MAXIMUS, MR BRUCE, THE MUD MAGNET, PROFESSIONAL COUCH POTATO & SELF-APPOINTED MANAGER OF ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING! ππΎ
Looking for a bulldog who loves adventures, water, snacks and making you laugh, but can also snooze for hours like a professional sloth? Good news! Bruce comes with BOTH settings! π€£β€οΈ
Meet Bruce, a 5 years and 11 months old White Bulldog weighing approximately 30kg. He's a big boy with an even bigger personality and a firm belief that the world revolves around him. And honestly? He's not entirely convinced it doesn't!
β€οΈ A LITTLE ABOUT OUR MR BRUCE
Bruce came into care through a private surrender and needed further veterinary treatment for a third eyelid cyst, having previously undergone cherry eye surgery. Paw Prints ensured he received the surgery he needed, and his eye has improved, although some redness remains and needs monitoring.
π‘ THE HOUSEHOLD MANAGER
Bruce is toilet trained, knows how to use a doggy door and can sit when asked. He's not crate trained, and his relationship with the doggy door is⦠enthusiastic!
He's occasionally pushed the door out of its frame while making an energetic exit. Clearly, the poor thing simply couldn't keep up with Brutus Maximus! π
As for sitting, Bruce operates on what we call Bulldog Standard Time. You make a request, he considers it, checks his schedule and decides whether it suits him.
He's not ignoring you. He's just consulting management!
π¦ WATER, MUD & OUTDOOR ADVENTURES
Bruce LOVES water! Puddles, paddling and muddy adventures are practically a lifestyle choice. Take him for a walk and you may need a towel, a change of clothes and possibly a pressure washer for the trip home!
He's managed walks of around 2β2.5km in cooler weather and enjoys sniffing adventures, car rides, balls and tug toys. Basically, if it involves fun, Bruce would like to be included!
π΄ BUT DON'T LET HIS ENTHUSIASM FOOL YOUβ¦ BRUCE IS ALSO A PROFESSIONAL SLOTH!
One minute, he's exploring puddles and investigating the neighbourhood. The next, he's flopped onto the couch or a dog bed, snoring away like he's just finished a twelve-hour shift.
Bruce can happily spend HOURS napping and chillaxing, transforming himself into a big, snoring bulldozer who somehow takes up more room than should be physically possible.
Disturb him when he's settled into the perfect spot, and you may receive a slow blink, a dramatic sigh or absolutely no response whatsoever.
Management is currently unavailable. Please try again after his nap! π€£β€οΈ
Bruce enjoys a lovely balance of outdoor adventures and lazy afternoons. He'll appreciate daily walks and opportunities to explore, but he's certainly not looking for a family who wants to run a marathon with him every morning. A little adventure followed by a comfortable spot beside his favourite humans sounds much more his style!
π IMPORTANT FOOD NOTE β BRUCE'S MENU!
Like quite a few Bulldogs, Bruce may do better without chicken in his diet. His future family will need to provide a suitable chicken-free diet and check the ingredients in his food and treats.
His favourites include liver treats, duck treats and Greek yoghurt. He also enjoys beef marrow bones when appropriately provided and supervised.
Don't worry, there's still plenty to keep this boy happy without chicken on the menu! π
π DOGS, PEOPLE & THE GENERAL POPULATION
Bruce is a friendly, curious boy who enjoys meeting people and is interested in other dogs. The only small problem is that he occasionally forgets he's a solid 30kg bulldog and not a tiny butterfly floating through a meadow! π
He can become very excited and boisterous when greeting people or other dogs, so he'll benefit from continued positive training to help him develop calmer greetings and better lead manners.
He's enjoyed meeting dogs on walks and during playdates. Any future doggy companion will need to be carefully matched to his size, temperament and play style.
Cats haven't been formally tested, and Bruce has shown interest in cats nearby. He also watches birds and may chase them, so his suitability around cats and small animals cannot be assumed.
Bruce has happily enjoyed pats and butt scratches from children he's met at the park. However, given his size and enthusiasm, a home with older children may be more suitable, with compatibility carefully assessed.
β€οΈ A SOFTIE WITH A SIDE OF CHAOS
Bruce enjoys being around his people and likes to know what's happening in the household. He can become excited when visitors arrive and may struggle when the attention isn't coming his way, so patient people who reward calm behaviour will help him show off his best side.
His favourite things include:
πΎ Sniffing every interesting blade of grass.
πΎ Splashing in water and investigating muddy puddles.
πΎ Balls, tug toys and car rides.
πΎ Delicious treats and supervised beef marrow bones.
πΎ Being wherever his humans are β preferably supervising them.
πΎ Stretching out on the couch like he pays the mortgage.
And if you're doing something interesting without him? Expect a visit from management.
Unless he's asleep, of course. In which case, please allow three to five business days for a response! π
π WHAT SORT OF HOME DOES BRUCE NEED?
Bruce needs a family who appreciates the goofy nature of a Bulldog and can provide:
Bruce isn't looking for perfection. He needs a family who understands his enthusiasm, appreciates his quirks and enjoys both his playful side and his relaxed bulldog nature.
π COULD BRUCE BE YOUR FOREVER BOY?
Life with Bruce will never be boring β even when he's doing absolutely nothing!
You'll have a water-loving adventure buddy, a personal neighbourhood watch officer and a bulldog who believes every visitor has arrived specifically to admire him. You'll laugh at his antics, shake your head at his stubbornness and wonder how one dog can generate so much mud.
Then, after all the excitement, you'll find him sprawled across the couch, snoring away and taking up approximately 90% of the available space.
Beneath all that bulldog bravado is a boy who deserves a loving home, a family of his own and the chance to enjoy his next chapter.
BRUCE IS READY TO TRADE HIS RESCUE STORY FOR A FOREVER STORY! β€οΈπΎ
If you have room for 30kg of bulldog charm, a generous helping of cheekiness, muddy adventures and a professional couch potato who takes his supervisory duties VERY seriously, Mr Bruce might just be your man!
