About Harley
Harley loves to be with his people as much as possible. He loves to tug of war with you, do lots of training with you especially when it involves lots of treats. Going for walks, playing chasey in the backyard, playing with his trusted canine companion.
Harley is happy and loving with his family. He is learning to be spatially aware but as this is new to him he is best not living with small children. He lacks a natural confidence which means that ideally he needs a fairly calm household, and one already well practiced in training and managing this kind of breed. He is flourishing in his foster home which has these principles in play. He is naturally boisterous, and his foster family are helping him learn how to temper that with good boundaries. He is friendly with strangers and will readily ask them for a pet, and is good natured with them.
Harley is living with a few dogs in his foster home from medium to large and he loves their company, his play style with other dogs is to bow wow, romp and lightly wrestle. He's also happy to potter around the yard with other dogs. Play is not necessarily required.
Harley travels well in cars and would be happy for car trips that end in a fun adventure.
Harley is a very strong dog and when he first came into care he would pull on the lead very hard and would be very hard to stop if he decided to take off. Since being in care he has responded very well to lead training and he now walks nicely on lead, he will need continued training to walk nicely on lead so he doesn’t fall back to his bad habits and will need to be walked by someone who is strong and confident with strong dogs.
Harley is smart and enjoys training for treats, he has learnt to “sit” on command, will follow a treat for “down” and he is working on “stay”. Harley is mostly toilet trained but occasionally he will attempt to mark inside, with close supervision he will stop this with a “uh uh”. Harley has been train to wear a muzzle and will need continued exposure to this to feel comfortable to wear it for longer periods, all he is happy and loving in every environment the vet is another thing, and a muzzle is needed.
Harley sleeps overnight in a crate inside a common room. After a walk he is popped into his crate again to have time to switch off and rest. His foster carers are working on teaching him to stay on his bed when required as well. He's also super happy to lie at your feet and get a lovely long belly rub from your sock covered foot.
Harley’s foster family has chickens, rabbits and quail that are all behind fences. He has shown some excitement being around them at different times, but most of the time he seems to simply forget they are there, but close supervision is advised for livestock and small animals. He has been fabulous with the foster cats in the home.
Harley is extremely physical. He wants strong cuddles, running/romping with you, to lean against you. Harley does best with gentle corrections and responds well to being told “uh uh”
The breed is to the best of our knowledge.

Adoption details
Please note- we do not work on a first in best dressed basis. We assess all applications to choose the home that we believe will best match the animals needs.
If you believe one of our animals would be a good match for your home, please send us a detailed email with some information about the people and any other animals in your home, as well as the type of lifestyle you can offer a new rescue pet.
We are volunteers who run the rescue around families, paid employment and other commitments so your patience is appreciated.
We do require you to travel to meet the animal you are looking to adopt. For dog adoptions, any other dogs in your home must attend the meet and greet, this enables us to assess their compatibility and helps prevent them being returned and creating more confusion/insecurities for the foster animal.
We reserve the right to refuse the adoption if we don't believe it's a good match for our animals.
All our animals are available for a fully refundable 2 week trial period. If you ever find yourself unable to care for, or keep your pet, please contact us and they will come back into our care, or we will do our best to assist you in finding them a suitable new home, this is a condition that you agree to when signing our Adoption Agreement.
