Highly intelligent and loyal, Rocko thinks he knows best. This boy truly is a little rockstar. Larger than a typical Dachshund, his heart reflects this. An incredibly affectionate boy, Rocko lives for a good cuddle and a warm lap to call his own.

Rocko doesn’t need big adventures to make him happy; he creates his own with his favourite people. He knows when you’re arriving home and will always be there to greet you at the door.

A masterful practitioner of nap time and an adorable companion, Rocko is searching for a family who loves cuddles or just sitting in each other company. He is one in a million and will bring a smile to your face even on the worst of days.

Rocko adjusted and settled into his foster family quickly. House and toilet trained, he is okay to be left inside when it’s time to go to work – provided no one leaves their breakfast on the counter! – and he is just as happy to be left outside when no one is home. When left alone for long periods of time though, he can get anxious and does need a bit of reassurance and calmness when people return.

On a walk Rocko generally walks at a steady pace. He does get easily distracted by noises and smells and can get a little overwhelmed at times which means he can pull. He receives daily walks and we are actively trying to correct this behaviour with constant and continuous training. Rocko is happy sitting in the car but does get restless on longer trips.

He will listen and respond to commands and is rapidly improving with constant training but as he can get quite overwhelmed, firm instructions are often required.

Rocko is a people person. Warm and friendly he is always keen to say hello to everyone he sees. Unfortunately, Rocko has difficulty making friends with other dogs and can be quite territorial. Initial introductions are generally smooth, but he gets easily overwhelmed by other dogs and can get aggressive. Not ready for off lead dog parks but loves a quiet street walk. Introductions to other dogs must be on lead and slow.

Rocko values his beauty sleep first and foremost; he prefers to lounge around rather than run around the yard but will if encouraged – and you join in! He isn’t particularly interested in toys but will sometimes chase his ball around. Despite his love for relaxation, he is just as equally excited to go on a walk. 1-2 walks a day is his sweet spot – 30-45 minutes is his general preference with just enough time out of the house to see what’s happening in his neighbourhood.

No sleep issues whatsoever. Rocko will sleep anywhere on anything if he feels he is safe. Settles well and loves to burrow under the covers – He makes a wonderful hot water bottle for those colder months!
Rocko can be protective and territorial of his home and his favourite people at times. On occasion, he will bark at noises he hears outside the house at night and during the day but does settle quickly if comforted and reassured with calmness. Rocko can also be a little stubborn and doesn’t always like to be moved from his favourite sleeping spots.

Rocko would best suit a home that offers a calm and stable environment with patient and understanding owners who would commit to working on his ongoing training. Owners who are willing to build a genuine and long-lasting connection with him and continue his training and provide him with the love and affection he is so eager to give.

He would best fit in a home with no other dogs at this stage and owners with a stable routine as it may impact his spirt/happiness to be left at home alone 5 days a week 9-5. Our foster family doesn’t include children, and we are unsure of how he would respond to them.

With a little love, trust, respect and patience, Rocko would make a fantastic addition and loyal companion to his forever home. He’ll join you for adventures, naps, a movie marathon and really, just about anything where he can be surrounded by his favourite people!
