About Gertie
Gertie is a fun-loving, energetic girl who is starting to let her personality shine.
When she first arrived in our care, Gertie found the shelter environment overwhelming and was very unsure of people. With patience, and time, she has made fantastic progress and is now showing us just how playful and affectionate she can be. Once she's comfortable, Gertie loves attention, enjoys playtime chasing a ball or her rope toy, and will happily greet her favourite people with an excited wagging tail.
Gertie would suit an active household that can provide her with plenty of enrichment, exercise, and opportunities to continue building her confidence. She thrives when allowed to learn at her own pace and responds well to gentle encouragement.
We are still learning more about Gertie and have not yet had the opportunity to fully assess her with other dogs. However, she has shown interest in dogs from a distance and has not displayed any reactive behaviours. She meets the dogs in the adjoining yard with a loose body and some play bows.
Gertie girl can jump up from her love of pats so suggesting she not have smaller children in the home.
Gertie is looking for a patient home that will help her continue her journey. Beneath her initial shyness is a playful, affectionate girl who is ready to build a strong bond with the right person.

Adoption details
The adoption fee for all animals is $79 + all veterinary costs which are determined once your animal is booked in for desexing and will be discussed with you at that time.
We encourage potential adopters to meet specific animals. If you already have a dog and wish to adopt another, we require a 'Meet and Greet' session at the facility to ensure compatibility. Please contact us to make an appointment.
All animals adopted from our facility come:
• Desexed
• Vaccinated
• Microchipped
• Vet-checked
• Lifetime registered in NSW
Please note that desexing (if required) is only performed after adoption, which may result in a delay in taking your new pet home, depending on vet availability. Staff will contact you once an appointment is booked, we kindly ask that you personally collect your new pet from the vet clinic to ensure they can begin their recovery comfortably in their new home.
For enquiries or to meet or adopt, please visit our website https://newcastle.nsw.gov.au/living/pets-and-animals/lost-and-found/lost-pets-in-ranger-care/animal-rescue-enquiry. Please provide the impound number listed next to the animal's name when enquiring.
For foster enquiries we will refer to one of our rescue partners where processes and approvals are at their discretion, please enquire to discuss further.
We do not offer trial periods for adoptions. Unless surrendered and the history is known, dogs in our care have not been tested with cats, so adopters should consider this carefully if there are cats in the household.
