About Bugsby
Hello there! I’m Bugsby, and I’m officially accepting applications for my forever family.
APPLICATION PROCESS APPLIES FOR BUGSBY
PLEASE COMPLETE THE BELOW APPLICATION FORM

My Ideal Home:
• I’ll need daily exercise — walks, park or beach trips, and playtime in the backyard will keep me happy and healthy.
• Ongoing training and guidance with basic manners will help me grow into a well-behaved companion.
• I want to be part of the family indoors — not left outside without interaction.
• As a social and playful pup, I may really enjoy attending doggy daycare.
• Secure fencing (6ft Colorbond or equivalent) is essential to keep me safe.
• I’d love plenty of toys and mental enrichment to keep my busy mind occupied.
• A good-quality dry food diet will help support my dental health.
• Most importantly, I’m looking for lots of love and attention from my family.
• When I get excited, I get a little bouncy and mouthy, I would do best in a home with mature kids (above 10) who will feel comfortable and confident around an energetic, enthusiastic dog joining the family.
• As an active breed, I have lots of energy, so I’ll need an active family who can keep up with me.
• Training, training, training — it’s essential that I receive consistent guidance in every aspect of my life so I can become the very best companion as I mature.
• Socialisation is just as important as training. Taking me to new places, introducing me to all sorts of people, dogs, and other animals will help me grow into a confident, well-adjusted dog.
• A submissive FEMALE canine companion would suit me well — although I adore people and would also be perfectly happy as your one and only.
• I have a high prey drive, so I’m not suited to homes with cats or small animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, or ducks.
My Paw-some Perks:
• I’m a very playful, happy pup with the cutest little wiggle-butt when I’m excited.
• I’m highly food motivated, which makes training lots of fun and helps me learn quickly.
• I walk nicely on lead for a young dog, and with daily walks I’ll only keep improving.
• I absolutely love attention, cuddles, hugs, kisses and head scratches.
• I LOVE toys!! Fetch and tug-of-war are some of my favourite games.
• I’m exuberant and full of beans, always ready for fun and adventure.
Training/Support Needs:
• I haven’t had any formal training yet, so I’ll need help with all my basic manners and life skills. The good news is I love food and toys, which will make positive training lots of fun and rewarding for me.
• As I haven’t previously been allowed inside the home, I may feel a little overwhelmed by indoor environments and need some guidance with my manners. With patience, positive reinforcement and a calm, quiet space to settle, I can gradually learn to feel comfortable and behave appropriately indoors.
• I’m not housetrained yet, so I’ll need guidance and consistency to learn.
• My recall needs work, as I can sometimes ignore you if I’m distracted — this is something we’ll need to practice together.
• I can be unsure and on edge around other MALE dogs and may react if they’re too full-on or reactive towards me. Controlled, positive socialisation experiences will help me build confidence around other male dogs.
Please Note: You’ll only be able to meet Bugsby if your application is approved. Successful applicants will be invited to the shelter for a meet-and-greet, and any dogs currently in the home must attend as well
PLEASE NOTE: Shelter staff make the final decision based on determining if the applicant can meet the animals needs (lifestyle, home environment, experience) Our goal is to ensure a permanent home that sets both the animal and new family up for success.
