About Camellia
Meet Camellia!
Camellia is a gentle, sweet-natured girl looking for a calm and understanding home where she can build confidence at her own pace. She can be nervous around new people and unfamiliar environments, so she will thrive with adopters who can provide plenty of patience, structure, and routine while allowing her the time she needs to settle in.
As a guardian breed, Camellia's future family should take the time to familiarise themselves with her breed-specific traits and needs. She is looking for a home where she will be included as part of the family and allowed indoors. Providing her with a safe crate or quiet denning area would be beneficial, giving her a comfortable space to retreat to whenever she feels overwhelmed or needs some downtime.
Camellia can be unsure of close handling and restraint, so it is important that all interactions are approached slowly and thoughtfully. Building trust through positive reinforcement, hand-feeding, and giving her plenty of choice and consent breaks will help strengthen the bond between her and her new family. Once she feels comfortable, Camellia begins to show a much more affectionate and cheeky side of her personality and enjoys spending time with her people.
She has not shown much interest in toys while in shelter care, although squeaky toys have caught her attention. As she gains confidence in a home environment, her new family may discover more of what motivates and excites her.
Camellia is still learning to walk confidently on lead and can become overwhelmed in new surroundings. Her adopters will need to take things slowly, introducing lead walking within environments where she feels safe before gradually increasing her exposure to the wider world.
Camellia came into our care with severe injuries following a dog fight and required extensive medical treatment while she recovered. As a result, she has understandably been cautious and uncertain around other dogs. She may be best suited as the only dog in the home, although we are open to finding the right canine match if introductions are managed carefully and slowly. Any dog meets will need to be thorough to ensure compatibility.
Due to her history and sensitive nature, Camellia is not suited to dog parks, dog beaches, busy cafés, or other high-traffic social environments. She is also not suitable for a home with small animals and cannot live with livestock, as she has a prior history of killing sheep.
For the right family, Camellia will be a deeply rewarding companion. With patience, understanding, and a peaceful home environment, this lovely girl will continue to grow in confidence and show the affectionate, loyal companion she truly is.
