About Douglas
Meet Douglas, a soft little 9-month-old ginger boy with big curious eyes and a heart full of quiet affection, who is looking for a quiet home and a feline best friend.
Found as a stray in someone’s backyard, it took weeks of patience, soft voices and gentle consistency before he trusted enough to come inside out of the cold. The person who found him built a beautiful bond with him, but couldn’t keep him long-term, so they reached out to us for help finding him the right forever home.
Doug arrived in foster care two weeks ago and, as expected, is still taking his time to settle. He already happily accepts pats and has his favourite crate (his safe little den) with him, which has been a wonderful base camp while he adjusts. Creating that familiar, covered safe space has been key, it stops him feeling overwhelmed and helps him settle much faster.
His foster mum has done a fantastic job, and with the help of his confident foster brother Jasper, Doug is slowly starting to find his feet. He can still be a little skittish, but he’s generally happy to sit quietly next to his foster mum for gentle pats… when he’s not following Jasper around like a shadow.
Doug is a beautiful, gentle, affectionate soul who has a lot of love to give, he just needs time and the right conditions to show it. He is not a “pick-me-up-and-cuddle” boy (being held still feels unfamiliar after his outdoor start), but he is extremely affectionate in his own way. Once he feels safe he actively seeks contact: soft head-butts, face rubs, and one of his most endearing habits, using his front paws (and sometimes even his back feet) to gently guide your hand exactly where he wants to be stroked. He particularly loves long, gentle strokes along his back, soft rubs around his cheeks, chin, forehead and chest, and when fully relaxed he will roll onto his side for careful belly pats.
Talking to him in a soft, warm voice and using slow blinks has been one of the best ways to build his trust. He responds beautifully to quiet companionship and patience. Sudden noises may make him pause and assess, but once he feels secure he settles again quickly.
Doug will do best in a calm, quiet home with another confident cat around his age who can take him under their wing and show him the ropes. Having a feline friend has already made a big difference to his confidence in foster care, and we believe it will be the key to helping him truly blossom.
He is a slow-burn boy - he needs time, space and understanding - but the reward will be a gentle, loving companion who gives the softest head-butts and the sweetest guided pats once he decides you’re his person.
His crate and familiar belongings will come with him so he can settle at his own pace.
If you have a peaceful home, patience, and a friendly resident cat ready to be a mentor, Doug could be the most rewarding addition.
Douglas is desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and located with his amazing foster mum in Balaclava.
There are lots of purrs, gentle smooches and quiet cuddles in this little ginger’s future, he just needs the right family to help him unlock them.
Please get in touch if you think you could offer Douglas the calm, cat-friendly home he needs.
About Us
Urban Feline Australia is a small, independent cat rescue dedicated to saving surrendered cats from kill shelters and finding them loving, permanent homes.
Founded and run by a passionate animal lover with the support of dedicated friends and volunteers, we specialise in caring for cats that have previously lived in family homes but, for various reasons, can no longer stay with their owners.
Since our inception, we have been fortunate to build a small but dedicated network of volunteer foster carers. These compassionate individuals welcome the surrendered cats into their homes, providing them with love, care, and a safe environment while we search for their perfect forever families.
As a tiny, grassroots rescue with no government funding or large facilities, every rescue is powered by compassion, community support, and a genuine commitment to animal welfare.
All adoption fees and donations go directly toward the essential needs of the cats in our care — including premium food, veterinary treatment, litter, equipment, and ongoing medical support. We rely heavily on the generosity of our foster carers, volunteers, and supporters to continue our work.
Our long-term vision is to expand so we can help even more cats in need. This includes securing a larger dedicated property and, one day, possibly opening a cat café to raise awareness and funds while creating a welcoming space for cat lovers.
How You Can Help

We are always in need of foster carers. If you have a safe, loving temporary home and would like to help us care for a cat on their journey to their forever family, please get in touch. The more foster homes we have, the more cats we can save.

Adoption details
We try to make things very easy and straight forward while at the same time making sure we are matching the right cat to the right home.
The first step in the adoption process is a quick chat over the phone to make you are able meet the cats needs and your home is a good fit for the cats personality.
From there we will organize a meet and greet the cats foster home where you will be able to see the cat in action and get a gauge of their personality.
Once you have adopted you new furry feline friend we offer ongoing support and you are welcome to contact us anytime if you have questions, concerns or need advice.
We work hard to make sure that each cat is a good fit for their new home but in the unlikely even that things do not work out we have a 21 day cooling off period and you are more than welcome to return the cat to us during that time.
We will happily refund 50% of the adoption fee or you are welcome to donate this refund to assist with the ongoing cost of the animals care.
