Retsu

Meet Retsu!

Retsu is a sweet and affectionate girl who absolutely loves being with her people. She is looking for a home where she can be a true part of the family and spend plenty of quality time with her humans. Retsu may experience some anxiety at times, so she will thrive in a calm, predictable environment that provides structure, routine, and reassurance as she settles into her new home.

A home where someone is around more often than not would suit Retsu best, as she enjoys companionship and being involved in daily family life. She must be allowed indoors and included as part of the household, where she can continue to build strong bonds with her people.

Retsu is highly food motivated and loves her meals, making food-based enrichment a great way to keep her mentally stimulated. She will benefit from daily enrichment activities using items such as snuffle mats, cardboard boxes, egg cartons, or milk bottles to encourage problem-solving and provide appropriate outlets for her energy.

She is also a playful girl who enjoys her soft toys and will happily spend time playing with her family. Retsu already knows her sit and down cues and is eager to continue learning. Ongoing positive reinforcement training will help her continue to develop her skills and confidence. Experience or knowledge of her breed would be highly beneficial to help meet her needs and set her up for success.

Retsu will require secure, solid fencing, as she has previously escaped rural-style fencing. Due to her prey drive, particularly around kangaroos, she is not suited to a rural lifestyle and cannot live with cats or other small animals.

Retsu would be best suited to a home with teenagers or potentially older, calm and respectful children who can understand her needs and boundaries.

At this stage, Retsu is looking for a home where she can be the only dog. While she was initially able to briefly interact with a calm female dog, she was very fearful and conflicted during interactions and quickly became reactive. As a result, she will benefit from being the sole canine companion while she continues to build confidence and settle into home life.

For the right family, Retsu will make a loving, loyal and rewarding companion. She is a beautiful girl with plenty of affection to give and will flourish in a home that can provide patience, companionship, enrichment, and lots of love.
