About Ernest (Ernie)
🐾❤️ **MEET ERNEST – OUR VERY SPECIAL LITTLE OLD MAN LOOKING FOR HIS FOREVER ANGEL** ❤️🐾
At 14 years young, Ernest has had a tougher life than any dog deserves. Coming from no so great circumstances, this sweet little gentleman hasn't always known the love, warmth and comfort of a home.
But thanks to some much-needed TLC and his wonderful rescue mum, Ernest is finally discovering just how beautiful life can be. ❤️
Sadly, Ernest had to have both of his eyes removed due to severe infections, leaving him completely blind. But don't let that fool you — this little man is making the absolute most of his golden years!
His favourite things in life are pretty simple:
☀️ Soaking up the sunshine
🍗 Eating ALL the food
💤 Sleeping the day away
❤️ Snuggling up for cuddles
🥰 And above all else... a good ear rub!
Oh, and did we mention Ernest has no teeth? This means you'll regularly find him fast asleep with his little tongue hanging out. It's impossible not to fall in love with him!
**And the best part? Ernest is a friend to everyone!** 🐶🐱
He gets along beautifully with dogs and cats alike, making him a lovely potential addition to a home with other furry family members. All Ernest really wants is a peaceful place to enjoy his retirement, surrounded by good company.
**We're searching for someone very special.** 🏡
At 14, we know Ernest's time with us may be limited, but we believe his final chapter deserves to be his happiest.
We're looking for either a **forever family to adopt Ernest or a very special "Angel" foster carer** who can offer him a loving home for the rest of his days.
And here's the beautiful part — You won't be doing it alone.
Tayla, our Practice Manager at Coogee Vet, has made a commitment to Ernest that our doors will always remain open, and she will continue to take responsibility for his veterinary medical care. ❤️
Ernest doesn't need much. He isn't asking for grand adventures, long walks or expensive toys.
He just wants a warm, cosy bed, a sunny spot to snooze, a full belly and someone who will love him gently and wholeheartedly.
**We can't change the first 14 years of Ernest's life, but together, we can make sure his final chapter is filled with everything he should have had all along.** ❤️
If you think you could be Ernest's forever angel, please reach out to the team at Coogee Vet.
And if you can't welcome Ernest into your home, sharing his story might just help us find the person who can.
🐾 Let's give this beautiful old boy the ending he deserves.🐾
Medical notes
A little note about Ernie's medical needs
At 14 years young, Ernie comes with a few extra medical needs, but none of these stop him from enjoying the simple pleasures in life!
Ernie is completely blind, however he is very well adjusted and gets around great! Just be mindful of simple things like no access to stairs. He has no teeth which means soft food or wet biscuits - he will honestly eat anything you give him, he is a gobble guts! and has an adrenal tumour that doesn't require anything.
And lastly he has low-grade mitral valve disease (MVD), which requires a daily tablet with his meals. Thankfully, being the food-loving little gentleman he is, he happily takes his medication straight from your hand because he thinks its a snack!
We understand that adopting or fostering a senior dog with medical needs can feel a little daunting, however Ernest's day to day life is very much the same as any other sleepy dog. And Tayla at Coogee Vet will continue to take responsibility for Ernie's veterinary medical care and will be around to answer any and all questions you might have.
All we're asking from his special someone is a warm bed, a loving home and plenty of cuddles, so Ernie can spend his golden years enjoying the comforts he so truly deserves. ❤️
Adoption details
All animals available for adoption through our hospital require a formal adoption application. Once your application has been received, our Adoption Coordinator will conduct a screening process to determine whether your home and lifestyle are a suitable match for the pet you are interested in.
Our priority is to ensure that every animal is placed in a safe, loving and suitable forever home, creating the best possible match for both the pet and their new family.
The adoption process may include a meet and greet, a consultation with our Adoption Coordinator either in person or over the phone, and, where appropriate, a home check. Home checks may be required for animals with specific medical, behavioural or special care needs.
If you are interested in adopting one of our animals, please email us and our friendly reception team will provide you with an adoption application. Once your completed application has been returned, our Adoption Coordinator will be in touch to begin the screening process.
