About Winston
Hello there! I’m Winston, and I’m officially accepting applications for my forever family.
APPLICATION PROCESS APPLIES FOR WINSTON
PLEASE COMPLETE THE BELOW APPLICATION FORM

My Ideal Home:
• Previous experience with my breed is essential.
• I’ll need daily exercise — walks, park or beach trips, and playtime in the backyard will keep me happy and healthy.
• Ongoing training and guidance with basic manners will help me grow into a well-behaved companion.
• I want to be part of the family indoors — not left outside without interaction.
• Secure fencing (6ft Colorbond or equivalent) is essential to keep me safe.
• A good-quality dry food diet will help support my dental health.
• Regular grooming and brushing will keep me looking and feeling my best.
• Most importantly, I’m looking for lots of love and attention from my family.
• Because I can be shy in new situations, a home without little ones who may accidentally startle me would suit me best.
• Training, training, training — it’s essential that I receive consistent guidance in every aspect of my life so I can become the very best companion as I mature.
• NO OTHER DOGS. As I didn’t have experience with other dogs before arriving at the shelter, I can be unsure how to behave around them. I’ll need continued positive socialisation to build my confidence and my manners. It is quite typical of my breed to also be selective of the dogs I get along with.
• I was unsure around cats at the shelter and may become more inquisitive as my confidence grows. If I join a home with a cat, they’ll need to be dog-savvy and introductions must be gradual and well managed.
• A quiet home with no young children (under 12) would suit me best, as I’m easily startled and need a calm environment where I can feel safe and secure.
My Paw-some Perks:
• I absolutely love attention, cuddles, hugs, kisses and head scratches, and I’m quite partial to snoozing on the couch with my humans.
Training:
• I haven’t had any formal training yet, so I’ll need help with all my basic manners and life skills
• I’ve only recently started learning to walk on lead at the shelter. I’m improving every day, but I can still be a little slow, erratic or fearful at times. With patience and regular walks, I’ll soon gain confidence and enjoy my daily strolls.
• I can be nervous around other dogs and may react if they’re too full-on or reactive towards me. Controlled, positive socialisation experiences will help me build confidence and learn that other dogs aren’t so scary.
• I’m shy when meeting new people and in unfamiliar environments, and I can be extremely timid when entering buildings or homes. I’ll need a patient family who will allow me indoors, move at my pace, and gently build my confidence through ongoing socialisation.
Please Note: You’ll only be able to meet Winston if your application is approved. Successful applicants will be invited to the shelter for a meet-and-greet, and any dogs currently in the home must attend as well
PLEASE NOTE: Shelter staff make the final decision based on determining if the applicant can meet the animal's needs (lifestyle, home environment, experience) Our goal is to ensure a permanent home that sets both the animal and new family up for success.
Shelter staff reserve the right to deny an adoption if they determine the animal's specific needs do not match the applicant's lifestyle.
Medical notes
Winston has had corrective surgery for Entropion.
Entropion in dogs is an eye condition where the eyelid rolls inward, causing fur and eyelashes to rub against the cornea and lead to pain or ulcers.
The vets noted that it may require a further surgery if the first one is not successful.
He also came into the shelter with fur loss and skin irritation. He is receiving medicated baths currently in hopes that this will clear up.
